What role do you wish to play in the guild? For example: PvP, PvE, Casual/Social
I would like to join a team to engage in PvP and to explore all PvE content. In a prior life (about five years ago) I was a hardcore gamer. My goal today is to play to the highest level I can but not to dedicate the countless hours I once did--real life does not allow such a luxury! I used to lead very large PvP events (especially in Warhammer) and also have directed end-game raids (mostly in Rift). As we become more comfortable with each other, I am willing to lead events as need be; otherwise, over the last year I have enjoyed "taking a back seat" and letting someone else lead the way.
The social aspect of the game naturally should come from participating in the group environment: learning about the other players, their in-game strengths and weaknesses, and--over time--their real life concerns. I played with a large guild for several years and moved to and from several games with them. I came to know many of my guildies (and we were a fairly large bunch) quite well. I have met guildies in real life, have counseled them (I am a practicing attorney), and generally have enjoyed speaking with them. I do currently use Teamspeak and Ventrilo and am happy to download other clients--voice chat is imperative to good play.
I regret the lengthy response, but I anticipate a multitude of possible roles.
Which previous MMO's or online games have you played and how long for?
I truly cannot recall all of the games I have played, but I will try to highlight the most recent ones and the ones that I played for the longest time: (1) Tera -- three months, (2) SWTOR -- five months, (3) LOTRO -- on and off again for roughly four years, (4) Rift -- nine months, (5) AION -- burned out on the Chinese servers after four months, (6) Warhammer Online -- nine months, (7) Age of Conan -- three months, (8) World of Warcraft -- two-ish years (vanilla WoW plus a little bit of that first expansion).
Were you a part of a guild? What was your experience?
I have been in a guild in each of the aforementioned games. I was a lowly peon in Tera and in SWTOR. I was a PvE raid leader for a semi-hardcore guild in LOTRO through Mines of Moria, whereupon I stepped down. I was a lowly peon in AION. I was a PvE raid leader and a guild officer in Rift (the guild had approximately one hundred active, unique accounts). I was an RvR (PvP) raid leader and a guild officer in Warhammer Online (the guild had approximately one hundred fifty active, unique accounts). I was a lower officer in Age of Conan. I was a lowly peon in World of Warcraft.
I brought guildies from Age of Conan and LOTRO together to form a very large guild in Warhammer. I merged my large guild to form a gigantic guild, with whose members I played AION and more LOTRO. I then took a break from gaming and lost touch with many of those players.
I became exhausted as a GM and raid leader in Rift. The constant planning, raid assignments and rosters, and activity planning was ridiculous.
I enjoyed being a peon again in SWTOR and Tera. I can follow orders if need be--I don't have to be the boss.
Overall, being in a guild and the experiences in such a guild make or break any game. I have unsubscribed after guilds have fallen apart (e.g. WoW). I have stayed in-game when I would have unsubscribed because of guildies (e.g. Warhammer). Finding the right group is critical.
How did you hear about the Guild?
I was perusing the game forums, found a link to http://www.gw2guilds.org/, and found your post.
What will you bring to the ALTTABME community? (Chatty? Skilled? Funny? Helping?)
I probably am more skilled (both in PvP and PvE raids) than a great majority of players. I like playing in groups. I am more helpful than most (I arranged fairly comprehensive class tutors in several games to augment gameplay).
Sadly, I may be verbose...
Will Arcanix be the only guild you join?
If we are a good fit, I do not see any reason to be in multiple guilds (tell me if there is such reason!). If we're not a good fit, I wouldn't stick around anyway.
Is there anything else you would like to throw in here at the end?
I work quite a bit as an attorney and cannot always be online. When I play, which is still quite frequent, my goal is to hop online and immediately do things... preferably as a group. I have a near zero tolerance policy for drama. I understand the importance of using voice communications. I understand the importance of following directions. I understand the importance of being timely to events, especially if registered to appear.
As some personal items about me:
(1) I work on large energy projects--I know nothing about divorce cases and DUIs;
(2) I like reading science fiction and Soviet era literature;
(3) I live in Texas;
(4) I am a very mediocre soccer/football player; and
(5) I don't trust my girlfriend to iron my shirts.
Enjoy!
