RUMOR

Kotaku has obtained this photo of an advertisement for Guild Wars 2, seen at aFry's retailer in Texas.Guild Wars 2 Retail Ad Shows June 28 Release Date [UPDATE]

As you can see, the ad says ArenaNet's massively multi-player online game, which iscurrently in beta, will be out on June 28.
So is it legit? On one hand, retailers tend to use placeholder release dates that are often based on estimates more than reality. (GameStop, for example, says the game will be out on June 26.)
On the other hand, this poster is a little more concrete than your average game retailer's database. It's a printed, physical object.
I've reached out to Guild Wars publisher NCsoft for comment and will update should they choose to respond.
Update: Here's a statement from NCsoft: "We have not released an official launch date within 2012 as feedback from our closed and open marketing betas will help us determine an exact release date. We will release Guild Wars 2 when it is ready."

Well let's say that 28th June is the date, then that means May's beta is the last one unless they do an open beta which I doubt they will. But I take that date with a pinch of salt.

The update is why I didn't post this earlier. NCSoft's statement is the same as always.

Its gotta be end of June imo. Actually it better be, I don't want to wait til like fall for this game lol.

I don't even know if that picture is trustworthy. I mean, just look at it. Would you expect that to be used in any in-store promotion? It's a monotone 8x11 piece of paper that looks like it was printed from a laser printer.

as much as I want the game to come out, I don't even know if they would release the game when there are soooo many people complaining of performance issues. people would destroy this game if it launched like this at this rate, even if they were the most loyal of fans. the matter of fact that the game is so unoptimized, buggy, events and personal story quests outright failing to trigger, and that character clutter onscreen especially in highly populated zones like wvw causes massive drops in fps is a big red herring.

not to mention a whole myriad of other issues, like the dialogue conversations not being complete. if they were to launch june 28th, they would have had to already begun refining most of the cinematics in the game to match the quality of
or
.

Matter of fact is that aside from these 2 cinematics, most of the dialogue scenes don't carry this same aura of quality. we can clearly see this in scenes outside of tutorial zones eg. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=a_Ik9BGVbsA#t=76s. I don't know if it is a realistic time frame for a team to bring every single scene to that same level of quality that people expect, unless they just reuse animations for many scenes, which may have been their intent from the start.

just my $0.02

Agreed that there is work to be done. A few things that you have to consider. A lot of performance issues are likely related to optimization. That said the build we play is most likely not the build they have internally. Generally thats the way most betas work. Another is the NDA drop. I would think its kind of early for them to fully drop the NDA if we are 6 months put for release. At any rate while i would love the game now i want it to be ready so i can manage some patience.

Other than stress test related connection stuff i can run the game fine on high settings in most situations minus WvWvW. Again its optimization for different setups.
