Well, having had a fun game at a LARP this past weekend, I thought I'd see if there were any fellow LARPers or people interested in LARPing.
I got hooked on LARPing during my college years when we'd run around on campus and fight each other with foam swords. It wasn't LARPing then, more like sword-fighting practice. Had the cops called on us 3 times, I think. Apparently, people attacking each other with sword-like objects looks suspicious. After that, a friend of mine invited me to go try out a game he was playing. I did. I never went back.
I actually got involved in my current LARP through a buddy at my old job. He had just found a new game and happened to mention it to me one day. I tagged along for the first event I could and I haven't missed a game since. I'm on my 3rd year at this game.
Since LARPs come in a ton of variety, I should mention my particular is a PvE, combat-focused fantasy LARP. Basically, we focus mostly on killing monsters and going on adventures. I currently play a fairy monk. Unarmed fighting (we just use 2 very short weapons to fight with) and lots of status effects.
So, any questions about LARP for you curious people out there? Any people interested in playing? If you have any interest at all, I'd recommend giving your local LARPs a chance. They're everywhere and it's a ton of fun. Great way to spend a weekend.
