Petition to stop this shit

Apparently China thinks this shit is okay. I know petitions hardly do shit-all, but this is at least a way to get the word out about this ridiculously cruel practice.

Apparently these poor creatures are sealed in these plastic containers with a nutrient and oxygen rich liquid that can sustain them four two months before they starve to death and die.

God damn it, World.

I feel like Id go around stealing this shit and then setting them free or taking care of them properly.

Me setting them free:

Gooo turtles! Run awayyy! You're freeeeeeeee freeeee like a bird freeeeeeeeeeeee!

PS: I'd keep one for myself, but not in such a bag though. I'd call him Peter.

This shit is absolutely disgusting, really want to cock punch every person who had a hand in making the decision to market this kind of thing.

Fucking ridiculous.

This reminds of the bottle cats.

In other words, fake.

I don't know what to tell you, man. The cat in the 2 liter and the amphibians and fish in the keychains seem to be pretty far from related. The whole scheme has animal rights groups up in arms all over the world, hell even CNN had an article about it, here. Pardon my lack of political correctness but a lot of Asian countries are a bit behind on the "animal's aren't just another expendable resource" philosophy that has somewhat taken root in the past couple of decades, so it's not surprising, but it's still disgusting none-the-less. http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/04/14/china.animal.keyring/index.html

Honestly, it's kind of upsetting that you would dismiss it so easily but to each their own.

Thanks for linking the story. My work blocked the other stuff, so I was just going off impressions of what I read here.

Those keyrings look legit, and I don't have an issue with them. Pets are sold in bags that size all the time. As the vendor in the article stated, you need to remove them within a couple days, otherwise they will die. It's obviously not a long term keyring solution. I think they could sell the same bags without the rings attached and no one would look twice.

There's much more important and blatant animal cruelty going on like factory farms and puppy mills. This is a mountain out of a molehill.

Factory farms and puppy mills are in a much different ball park. Petitions can't do anything to stop them and as long as business run the farm industry it probably won't change. This is a small battle against the cruel treatment to defenseless creatures. Stick an infant in a sealed plastic bag with nutrient rich liquid for a couple of days and see how well it develops. Taking a living creature and putting it into a plastic bag that's barely bigger than it is is just plain wrong, especially considering that these people are not selling these as pets.

If this was a fancy way to take a new pet home, maybe it would be okay(I still don't think so), but right now you're essentially legitimizing live animals as a fashion statement. Fashion is pretty stupid as it is, but this is a whole new level of absurdity.

I'm not going to try and convince you, but as an animal lover and someone who just doesn't like to see stupid shit like this take off I'm compelled to sign the petitions against it. It doesn't hurt me to take six seconds to type in my name and hit sign, even if it ends up failing I still put in my two cents on the subject.

Also, let's face it. The fucking idiots that would buy these key chains are not people that are going to release these creatures back into their habitats. I foresee a lot of toilet flushes and trash bins full of them. It's a little bit frustrating.

I understand and respect your passion. Animals should never be treated cruelly, especially not for arbitrary reasons.

Hopefully, many of those critters find their way to a good place.

Man that is just wrong. After a few days there would be so much shit (literally) that it would be disgusting. Cruelty to animals like this is unacceptable.
