Most affordable way to move across country?

REDACTED

Ok, I'm looking for suggestions on affordable ways to ship my crap across country. I have been pricing U-Haul and Enterprise Vans, etc., and it is over $1500 excluding gas! I really can't afford that, but want my stuff.
Have any of you used UPS/FedEx as an alternative to ship pre-packed boxes? What about Greyhound? I hear they do that now. I will probably end up having to list my furnishings on CraigsList and only take the precious family mementos... but ugh, what a challenge.

The other drawback is I have a small one bedroom apartment and don't really have the room for everything, and I don't want to pay to move something if I'm only going to trash/sell it in Florida.

I even thought of looking for a mover on Craigslist, or wondered if there was a serivce where you could split the cost with other people moving from a certain region.

Any of you know someone with a moving van? LOL

All tips, suggestions, advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Kizzy

Cross Country moving is best when done via a moving company such as Allied. Sometimes you can get on one of their trucks making multiple stops and it will cost less.

ANYTHING across country = 1000+ automatically with any company. If you drive it yourself with Gas and Truck rental you save maybe 200 bucks. So unfortunately other than stuffing your own car, no way that I know of.

Fed Ex or the like wlll be 5 bagillion times more expensive.

Best way is to find out their weight limits. Then sell what you don't wanna bring at a gaarage sale and try to get into a multi move van at minimum weight. But I am confused you live in Florida and are moving to florida?

Just be careful you don't accidentally pick the the moving people in the personal section of the site. You may be paying a little more for their seervices

Yeah. I have a house near Lake Placid, NY and have been storing my belongings there for nearly two years. It's time to get my stuff. I used Allied to move up there... I just cannot swing that expense right now due to my circumstances. I don't want to bring everything, but I drive a clown car so even if I did pack it full, it would not be enough room for what I do want.

I really don't want to ship it to Florida, because ultimately I don't want to live here forever... but I will be here at least for another year, and ugh... it's just such a hassle, long story, sucky situation... bitch moan bitch moan.

They are just 'things' and if I've lived without them two years I think do I really need it? BUT, some of those assets could be liquidated in to cash flow. I just need to hit the lottery or hook up with a moving van man for a month. :p

If you ever need a house sitter, I'm your (Ger)man!
I'd even water your plants (god knows they could use some water by now).
