Do you have any friends in the guild? If so, who?
Not yet!
Main Character
Asura Guardian
Character Name
Nahku or Mohku
Race
Asura
Profession(Class)
Guardian, most likely. I'm still trying out all the classes, but I've had the most fun with the Guardian thus far.
What role do you wish to play in the guild? For example: PvP, PvE, Casual/Social
I typically stick to PvE in MMOs, and casually PvP for grins. However, I was a huge fan of DAoC (Hibby, Nimue represent!) and the RvR system they had. It was some truly epic PvP back in the day, so GW2's WvW definitely interests me, and I've loved what I've played of it in the beta weekends. Honestly, the combat is so much fun in GW2, that I'm excited for all aspects of it, so I'll likely be taking it all in. I'm also a bit of a crafting nut, and I'm usually the one straying off from the group to gather mats to make the guild consumables, bags, armor, and the like. I usually roll on RP servers due to the common (mis?)belief that you get a more mature group of people there, so I dabble in the occasional RP. Although I don't usually actively participate in RP much, I enjoy hanging out and listening to the stories, and the occasional in-character dungeon run can be fun/hilarious.
Which previous MMO's or online games have you played and how long for?
I started with MUDs back in the day (Northern Lights and Despair). After a brief run in Ultima Online for about a year, I started playing EQ1 when it was released. I played EQ1, strictly PvE and no raiding, for about five years until DAoC came out. DAoC held my interest, mainly due to RvR, until WoW. I played WoW on and off since release and was raiding since the good ol' Molten Core and BWL 40-man days. I dropped WoW shortly after Cataclysm released, I just didn't like what the game had become. Towards the end of my WoW time, I also dabbled in the arena with a friend. I have a competitive streak in me that comes out in PVP, I suppose, there's definitely a good rush in pulling a clutch move to win a match. In the end though, the arena in WoW was lacking.
Since WoW, I've tried all sorts of other MMOs out there, nothing held my interest. SW:ToR was fun for a while, it definitely had that Star Wars feel nailed down, and it had great some PvP scenarios.. but ultimately it was just entirely too un-polished of a game, and the flaws got to me after a while.
I play my fair share of BF3 and Tribes as well, especially now while I'm waiting for GW2 to release.
Were you a part of a guild? What was your experience?
I never really joined guilds until WoW. I was a part of a few guilds in WoW over the 7 years that I played off and on. It was typically always a lot of the same friends that reformed guilds as they inevitably dissolved or merged into others as people took breaks. They were always smaller "family" type guilds, and barring my 2-year hardcore raiding streak in Vanilla WoW, I was mainly part of a casual raiding guild that was more focused on having fun than progression.
How did you hear about the Guild?
I saw your stream mentioned on guildwars2guru.com. After watching the first podcast, I really enjoyed it and am always looking forward to more. I sent my friend a link to it because I thought you guys really laid out a lot of the key points that make GW2 so amazing. (no need to hurry to level, the way everyone cooperates together, how you can just ENJOY the game and not powerlevel, and so on.)
What will you bring to the ALTTABME community? (Chatty? Skilled? Funny? Helping?)
I can definitely be a bit on the chatty side in guild chat, but can be a bit quieter on voice chat… that is, until a few beers in, and then it's usually game-on.
Like I mentioned above, I am a bit of a crafting addict and enjoy making consumables and equipment for guildies. Since I LOVE the GW2 crafting system, I'm pretty sure that this trend will continue. I'm also the type to drop what I'm doing to help someone out with a quest, event, or anything they might need assistance with. The fast-travel in GW2 will really facilitate this, so I look forward to helping out others whenever I can! I also tend to read up on just about everything in the game (mechanics, builds, lore, recipes, you name it..), but never at work, no, that would be BAD! <_< … but yeah, I really enjoy learning all I can about the game, and passing that information on to others that are interested. I like to learn my class, and play it to the best of my ability, so I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to that (note: this by no means designates any sort of skill
).
Will Arcanix be the only guild you join?
Yep. From what I've seen from your podcasts, and what I've read on your site, you seem like "my kinda people."
I don't guild-hop, so if it's a good fit, I'll definitely be sticking around.
Is there anything else you would like to throw in here at the end?
I've already purchased the CE of the game, and have been in all the beta weekends and stress tests so far. It's fair to say I'm pretty addicted to the game already. I'm fiending for release, so we can start actually playing our permanent characters and seeing more of the GW2 world.
And for the American Idol part of the application, I leave you with my stirring rendition of Morris Albert's mega-hit "Feelings."
*ahem... FEEEEeelingsss, Nothing more than FEEEEEeeeelings*
(edit: some special characters got all wonky)
(edit2: and yes, I plan to play at least one Asura. And it will be my personal mission to get Tristan to stop calling them "rat people")
