Alrighty guys, i flagged this as important cause my efforts and numerous google searches have come up trumps and its really annoying me now.

This morning my pc was working fine.

Came home from work, turned it on...and no sound.

I play sound through my TV via HDMI cable.

My TV speakers still work, as i get sound when watching TV.

It's not the HDMI cable. (I checked with multiple ones).

It's not my playback device settings. (If anyone suggests this i might scream as its the solution you find on google multiple times)

Sound is registering, can see it when i click the speaker icon on the desktop toolbar, i just can't hear anything.

Drivers are all up to date and such. no new drivers were downloaded between yesterday and today.

Any help would be appreciated, im hoping it isnt that my graphics card is fucked QQ

ok i tried the soundcard HDMI port and same result so seems like it is a software/system setting gone wrong somewhere T_T

Un mute your tv /whyyouno... just kidding but if you think its software or something you could possibly go back to a restore point on your PC to see if it fixes it.

so glad that post continued, was ready to kill someone.
well im assuming it must be.
like i said no updates had been performed. sound is registering i can see the green bar moving, just it doesnt actually play.

Dont Shoot me but in the playback devices have you right clicked on whatever device your useing then properties and checked that the sound ( Should be under levels) isnt muted or turned down ,sometimes i have to do that when i hook up my tv gets auto muted in the setting for some reason.

yeah, sounds like the sound on your PC is muted somewhere it shouldn't be.

Put Volume down to 10% and back up to 100%. Sometimes it mutes itself when it is at 100% for me, don´t know why.
Or Mute and unmute it.

If the default audio device or mute isnt the problem i would uninstall your audio drivers, download newest ones available and install those.

Also try a pair of headphones directly into your sound output on your motherboard. Verify that works. It could be an issue with the HDMI port, but I'm going to guess reinstalling the drivers would fix this.

reinstalling drivers did nothing :( will check headphone jacks, hadnt thought of trying that.
it just baffles me cause it does register sound is playing i just hear nothing through my TV/Monitor

Did you ever manage to fix this? If not try pressing the mute button on your keyboard.

might just roll it all into one.
point my computer tower east, use it as an alter as i sacrifice a virgin with the horn of an adult unicorn....whilst eating a goat kebab?

Have you checked your TV's audio settings? Perhaps there is something that disables sound via hdmi either TV side or PC side? Just tossing ideas in the wind for inspiration.

Have you tried just buying a cheapy sound card to test with.. you can grab one for 20 bucks. Not a long-term solution, but might narrow down the problem. Sounds like a MB HW issue, so testing on a card might help to see if that is the case.
