NYCC 2013: My First Con

I am going to apologize for the lack of pictures and the quality of the ones I do have. I was pretty overwhelmed taking in the sights of my first con. Next con(PAX East hopefully) I am going to plan my days better and allot specific time to take pictures and video.

Anyway I spent Friday and Saturday at the NYCC and let me tell you it was a helluva time. While ultimately I am typing this with my last bits of energy Saturday night, it was quite fun and definitely something I will be doing yearly, hopefully in costume next time.

On the subject of costumes, there were your usual fan favorite celebrity cosplayers, but those regular joes who put a lot of time and effort into their stuff when they can to pull out some amazing stuff are really the heart of the cosplay. Take these members of the 501st Legion, bringing order to the galaxy. Every piece, every detail was made by them or others in the 501st generally.

Ran into some really great cosplayers but did not grab too many photos. Here are a few that I managed to snap.

Apparantly the villans have cooler stuff because Wonder Woman went off and joined them, or is she a double agent?

The power rangers showed up to kick some ass.

Unfortunately thats about the extent of the decent cosplay pictures I got. I did however manage to grab some pics of other highlights. Like a Delorean!

^This is cool. An awesome art project in Artist's Alley. A matte white camaro getting inked from different artists at the con. Im going to try to find the rest of the art on this car when it pops up online.

Con over...Shopping done...all my goodies safe and sound at home. Lot of comics to get through. Walking Dead compendium is like the first 50 issues of the graphic novel. Forgot to snap a picture of it but I got a free Wildstar t-shirt at their booth!

So I had a chance to stop by the Carbine booth at comic con first thing Friday morning. The game is looking great and running smoothly. It was not the build with the new changes talked about recently but regardless the game is looking SLICK! I was able to meet fellow Tabber Simpwn and his lovely wife there and we were able to grab some quick game time.

They had the demos setup pretty well with a Razer Naga all bound which made it quite easy to jump into the active dodging and slashing/hacking(warrior). The graphics looked crisp and the UI was pretty minimal although I hope for fully customizable UI through the modder community.

Panels

I took in a few panels at the con with a few worth mentioning. One was the Venture Brothers panel. I haven't watched too much of that show but my buddy I went with does and the creators are hilarious. Season Six is being written as we speak. I also had the opportunity to attend a Joss Whedon panel consisting of the artists that bring his universe to life through comics. It was cool to hear how much they enjoyed working on Serenity and Buffy stuff. The most important piece of news from that panel?....Zach Whedon is making new Serenity comics! WOOT!

Anyway that was my NYCC experience. Most of it was me trying to absorb everything. Next time I hope to have more pics and some video and plan out my days a bit more.

I went to NYCC on Friday. Here's some of my better images.

I went as the 11th Doctor while my wife went as Katniss. We had an awesome time. It was a really long day though because we tried to do as much as we could in the 1 day we were there.
