Hello everyone,

I am a freshly applied possibly soon-to-be member of your sprawling community. I just wanted to say hi and hopefully tip the scales in my direction-bruceno-

I love what you are doing here and I must admit after a thorough online research alttabme stands out as a community that spells out good game based entertainment for years to come.

I am currently awaiting Wildstar release playing some civ5 and definitely looking forward to Shadowrun Returns, apart from mmos, I am a turn base strategy/rpg gamer.

Hope to get to know you all on Mumble!

Welcome. But please take your time with your application, and get to know people a bit :)
 
the usual stuff, movies, music, some sports (I go swimming at least 3 times a week and I play basketball casually - I'm a big fan of nba)
I enjoy science documentaries, mostly stuff I don't really understand like subatomic particles and string theory:)
in RL I teach high school kids ESL which I find quite enjoyable and I am pretty blessed to consider my job as one of my hobbies:)

Ya in the 80s/90s seagrams wine coolers were trying to compete with Bartles and James wine coolers. They got Bruce Willis as a spokesman when he was trying to make it as a blues singer.
 
Zomg civ 5. i look forward to having someone one else who i can potentially play that with. although i learned my lesson about how long those games end up taking. proper planning may be required XD

I had a feeling you'd have an interest in subatomic particles and String Theory. I mean someone who puts "Intelligence without ambition is like a bird without wings." as a status message will most likely find quantum mechanics cool.

EDIT:
I'll just add that I'm a pretty random person, something between the 11th Doctor and the four guys from The Big Bang Theory.

ye, playing till the end a civ 5 multiplayer session takes dedication and people you know, I have been on it for some time now, civ player base on steam is huge but getting together is virtually impossible, playing a game with randoms is a disaster, you need 7 people you know and can communicate with to have a decent portion of entertainment out of it

ye, as I mentioned earlier I always find things beyond my comprehension exciting, the best part about those science shows is that the way science is presented is very easy to grasp for non-physicists, when I watch Michio Kaku explain stuff I feel as if there were no holes in my science education (although there are plenty as I am more of a humanities field type of person and my physics teacher back in my high school days, which was 20 years ago, was hardly around and she just slacked all her way through every single lesson)

anyway, I see they call you The Mad Scientist and I bet there must be a reason:) btw how do you deal with time zone difference when you play with alttabme which is mostly NA based I presume? I see you're from Belgium, I got some friends in Wetteren and Gent where I go every two years for student exchanges

There are many reasons why they call me the mad scientist. Look at the Starving Artists section for my projects, I usually post them there (though there are atleast 10 more than what you see there).
Currently planning on joining the Google Science Faire, it could be a boost for later on.
I can build cheap UAV's that fly via solar power and use a cellular internet connection, which makes everything a lot cheaper (and since the current network techniques are quite reliable I believe that this isn't a bad idea).
Also have ideas on achieving holograms, living dust, powered exosuits, and Sword Art Online-ish immersive gaming by means of nanotechnology. And don't get me started about sending my own rover to the moon. lol

And I'm serious about what I'm saying, I just don't have the funds. Pretty much Tony Stark before he gets rich is what others call me here.
Yes, the powered exosuit is quite like the Iron Man suit; actually it's more like a nanosuit from Crysis; except it's like more like extremis.
The stuff I have in my head is pretty much based on carbon nanotubes that form nanorobots and there is no limit in what you can achieve with them.
The only problem I have right now is that I don't really have the funds to make any of my cool ideas real, so I'm not sure if I could win the Google Science Faire without a proof-of-concept. Most people that do something that has to do with engineering have a proof-of-concept.
I have zero funds for that, yet I know how to create the stuff.


And how do I deal with the time zone difference? Well I like to live during the night, I can concentrate a lot more then. And yes, I am from Belgium, from Limburg actually; I live just by the border of the Netherlands (it's ~500-2000 meters away, it causes quite some trouble with cell phone reception as my phone sometimes thinks that I'm in the Netherlands but my cellular network provider has placed a new 3.5G node near my house two months ago so that fixed it I think).

EDIT: If you want to ask me if I can hack a Facebook account for you (like almost every person that I meet in real life that learns who I really am) then yes, I can do it.
But I won't do it, as usually the reason why someone wants to hack someone is because of personal reasons and I don't want to touch that.
(jk, I know you won't ask that but I wanted to say it anyway lol; I like being random)
 
man you're OP:) with young people like you the future of mankind looks much brighter,it is people like you that will one day pick up a signal of extraterrestial intelligence and decode it, or build an arc, a huge spaceship that will colonize other habitable planets allowing human race to avoid extinction, people like you will answer the fundamental questions of existence and our beginnings, as 34 year old citizen of the world I fully support your endeavors and look forward to your scientific breakthroughs that will make our lives easier

But maybe I'm just building weapons like a Gauss Rifle, or even of mass destruction!
