I have to agree with everything being said here. I can't even see myself, someone who values excercise wanting this thing. If I am running to catch a flag and you are pushing a controler thumbstick forward.. you will win 9 times out of 10. I will be out of breath and sick of this thing. Maybe for a single player game, yes. But why don't I want to immerse myself with the rift without the running. I want to relax to video games not run in place awkwardly. Plus running is a really slow tedious way to lose weight as it is.

This week on Shark Tank the panel of venture capital investors we’re pitched on the Virtuix Omni…directional treadmill. The device coupled with an Oculus Rift and gun accessory is designed to transform the gamer’s living room into a virtual reality dream space. The panel, consisting of Mark Cuban, Daymond John, and others weren’t buying in to it.

I saw this episode and was really excited to see the Rift being talked about on a national stage, but the device the guy was trying to push was not very well thought out. They made it look like a joke on TV. The way he was marketing it and the evaluation he put on it was laughable.

As a gamer we should be excited about the Rift and where it can take the genre in the future.

Haven't seen this but really? I would love to get in shape by playing video games. Like it was said, I would probably suck horribly until I got in shape or only use it for single player games but hell yes.

If I had a man cave and a rift I could see myself grabbing one of these, if not for the novelty of it. I think it would be cool to mess around with and I'm sure people would love to mess around with it.

I wonder what the weight limit is on this thing?
Other than that, not interested. I cannot play RPGs and RTS with it.

I don't think they bashed the Rift at all. The best thing about his rig was the Rift. They quickly lost interest when they realized he was selling the least interesting part of the whole thing. It opens up some great possibilities for VR immersion in the future, especially for exercise or training purposes. However, hardcore gamers are not going to spend much time with it, and hardcore gamers are your main market for the Rift.

What we need is some full dive NerveGear, a'la Sword Art Online.

This reminds me of everything they sell as accessories to "lose weight". The thing is a bracelet or a running machine for a video game don't make you lose weight, you do. It is still hard work and there is nothing out there that will do it for you. Yes it could be fun, but the likely hood of the old fashioned hard work being "FUN" because you have something like this is very slim sadly. It plays off peoples insecurities or the instant cure to obesity. A gamer can be in shape and play games. There are some things that can help, but the mindset has to be there too. I just don't like seeing people buying expensive equipment to make workouts "easier" and then it sitting in a corner cause it doesn't wield the results they thought it would. That being said, if they still had arcades this thing would be AMAZING.

I had a huge problem with the guy and his pitch. He didn't seem to understand what the business direction was for this thing. When pitching it to the sharks they suggested whether or not the thing was targeted as an exercise machine for gamers.

It's meant to be a cool accessory for gamers to help immerse themselves in the worlds they are playing in.

Once something like VR/Rift becomes more mainstream these secondary accessories will start becoming popular.
