Disturbing people

Being a parent-to-be this freaks me out and makes me supremely angry at the people who would do something like this. Baby Monitor. We recently were given a baby monitor and the first thing I thought of was "Someone can hack these and talk/watch our baby or whatever is going on." This freaks me out because if some sicko wanted to they could hack into our baby monitor but my question is why? What sick perverted person would want to spy on a child? This is disturbing and this is not the first incident I have heard of these happening.

A. Don´t use devices that communicate with your phone
B. Don´t use devices that communicate wireless in general

Both of these things apply for this Baby monitor. This has been a huge issue and is the reason why most people in Germany don´t buy smart homes. According to the company making these things it´s always safe, but anything wireless is not safe.

Why not get a wired device instead?

The problem is a baby monitor is used with a hand held device from another room. I wouldn't want to drag around a device that had a cord attached to it. Luckily I haven't hooked my baby monitor up to any WIFI and it is just transmitting to the device that came with it.

I think that's fine for the transmitter, but the parents' receiver would be like... a really long corded phone that needs to be dragged all over the house. I remember those days. They were awful.

//edit

I guess you could do multiple wired receivers and broadcast to every room. Or put the crib in your bedroom? Or if the place is small enough, perhaps you'd hear what was going on anyway and dodge the monitors altogether?

While this is safer than normal wifi, it still can be hacked.

The best way is to do it via pw-protected bluetooth which has enough range for most of your rooms (not outside your house)

On the topic of hacking:

Handle it.

Many whelps.

People can even hack wirelessly into your phone and listen to you via the receiver and look at what both (if you have front facing) of your cameras can see. Get a tinfoil hat man, they're gonna be monitoring our brain waves next.

The sad fact is everyone seems to forget their entire history after certain points in life.

After College everyone forgets how evil they were in high school.
After they become a manager they forget how much they complained about management.
After they retire they forget how much they complained about old people.

I don't condone the actions of the people who hack these devices, but let's face it...
Children are angry, annoying, noisy sacks of meat to most youth.
Parents forget a lot of their old opinions when they check that box on the health insurance forms. (or deal with other people's kids)

Welcome to your new life as a parent where you suddenly understand all that B.S. you used to make fun of.

Personally I just use a strong password and a very, very simplistic device.
HOW DID THEY HACK MY PASSWORD!!!!

Why on earth would you chose a camera with a mic on it that can track the room?
Keep using it after the kid is 3?
I could go on for a while about those odd choices....

It sickens me to my stomach the thought of the twisted people on this planet. For example, when I was new at streaming, i let the kids play with me in front of the camera etc etc because #1. It was fun for all, #2 Thats what we always do. The kids and I are always playing video games together! (much less wife-aggro) Now, I have them set up on a computer in another room and when they stand in front of the camera I have to tell them to go away. I can't tell you how many times that people posted links to porn and other shock sites with the intention that my innocent little 6 and 8 year girls will see.

I just dont get it. How can something with a prefrontal cortex do that?

For these reasons I find myself with absolutely no tolerance or patience for trolls. The word troll is even becoming much like the word 'rape' for me. An undesirable taste in my mouth that has such a negative connotation that it makes me physically ill. I'm very glad that these people are anonymous. If I ever could/would know who they were, I would end up in jail. Those who have children know the feeling I'm talking about. Those who don't, imagine someone stepping on the head of your favorite pet and squishing it, and you're almost to that gut feeling of 'insert indescribable emotion here.'

Anonymity breeds dicks. It also breeds awesome things like wikipedia. You can´t have one without the other.

I´ve been a troll for my entire life. I´ve done things that I´m not proud of, but I know why people do this. Their life is so miserable, bringing their misery into other peoples life is the only thing that makes them happy. Trolling is never done by happy people.

There should be a twitch bot that will automatically block any link posted in your twitch chat. That's what I will be doing. You want permission to post a link? then ask me first.

And yeah, I hate trolls. I troll from time to time but on the smallest of levels with slight jabs and such.

That exists duder, I think almost all of them can do that.
