There's a lot o discussion in New York right now over whether horse drawn carriage rides should be banned in Central Park. Mayor De Blasio has taken up the cause as a major issue. Take a look at these articles to get an understanding of the arguments:

Pro-Carriage: http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/23/opinion/malone-keep-carriages-in-new-york/index.html?hpt=hp_bn7

Anti-Carriage: http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/23/opinion/bershadker-ban-horse-drawn-carriages/?iref=obinsite

I think both articles are well-written and raise some good points. Who do you agree more with? I'm especially interested in hearing from those of you that live in New York and have see the practice for yourselves.

Wow those are both some pretty well written articles. I haven't read them yet because OMG wall of text but i will when i get home and have a better comment on them. This will be my pre-lim comment before i read the articles.

I don't live in NY so i don't have first-hand experience on the issue but from my point of view i believe they should be allowed to stay. I think (most) everybody loves the idea of a romantic night with their loved one and ending the night with a horse-drawn carriage. (Yes, i can be a romantic so *lick:)

Well I know part of the issue is they were basically going to merk the horses out if they couldn't use them for carriages. The city isn't a good place for an animal like that, but I would be sad to see them go. It's kind of a staple here and it's nostalgic for a lot of people.
