The Gala of Anora

Hundreds of years ago, before the founding of Telera and the Crowning of the World, a dragon, terrorizing under the name of "Haver", championed the sky. Haver was a ruthless and murderous lord, demanding complete reign of the sky, and regular offerings. The small tribes of the snowy mountains of the far east were the most heavily terrorized, as their existence at such a high elevation was seen as an affront to the Lord of the Skies. At any given point in time Haver could be seen setting villages aflame, swooping children out of fields, and destroying entire fields of crop. Something had to be done.

Militias were formed, and promptly incinerated. Towers were built, and crumbled.

Legend says that the death of the dragon Haver was caused by the Knight Anora, and her Haemonculus. Specific information on the knight and her presumed artifact of legendary power has been blurred through the ages, but it is said that one night, howls of pain could be heard throughout the land. The dragon lord had been spotted tumbling out of the air and crashing into a field.

The militias rallied: this was their chance. He had surely made a mistake, fallen ill, or eaten a child that had disagreed with him. When the militias gathered around the slumped mass, they found the Knight Anora, and her Haemonculus, clutching the head of the Dragon Haver. When asked to regale of the events, Anora is famously quoted as stating very simply: "Haver's dead". For years, signs were posted in villages and cities, and on top of towers that finally, "Haver's Dead". After a while, the mountainous region of tribes and villages became a bustling city-state.

The people would proudly name their land: Haverstead. To this day, the fabled Gala of Anora is celebrated every year on the anniversary of the death of the Dragon Haver. Local superstition states that one year, at the stroke of midnight, Anora and her Haemonculus will show and allow them to ascend to the heavens.
