Digital Music Production, Anyone?

I'm wondering if anyone here is into (or interested in) digital music production?

To get straight to the point: I don't really know what I'm doing. I'm a perfectionist, I have good ears, and I have many ideas - but I'm still miles away from getting the results that I'm looking for, or getting things to sound the way that they sound in my head (and I'm not even talking about all the EQ/post-processing/mixing/mastering stuff yet!). I figure it's a lifetime of learning if you're really committed, but it can be quite the rewarding hobby, if you're looking for a creative outlet.

So what I'm looking for is perhaps someone who's eager and interested in collaborating on some music. If you have experience and you're willing to put up with someone who's not that far yet, I will <3 you to endlessly!
If you have little or no experience, but would like to dive into this hobby, I won't mind going through the basics with you - we can both slowly learn the ropes together while we're working on a track (or more).
Either way, a word of caution: I'm a bit backed up with work until February, so I'll only be able to clock in a few hours each week.

As to the music itself, I'm still trying to figure out what type of sound I'm most likely to end up with. I haven't quite "found myself" yet.
So far I've played around with some Hip Hop, Trip Hop, DnB, Liquid DnB, and a bit of Dubstep - stuff along those lines.

For those of you who know a little about audio software, I've settled with Ableton Live 8 as my DAW (though I've played around with Cubase as well), and there are a couple of VSTs and effects that I end up using quite often (Sylenth, Izotope's products, db_glitch, and more).
Hardware-wise, I have a cheap M-Audio midi keyboard (although I don't know how to play a piano). I'll probably end up getting an Akai MPD at some point, but not until I'm more proficient with this hobby.

Sooo... what say ye? ^^

This area has always hugely interested me, since I love music (I literally have it playing all the time.. work, while gaming, while going to sleep...).. I just can't throw down cash for any more extracurricular creative pursuits at the moment since I just picked up Adobe AE and Trapcode Particular a while back, and I promised myself no large software purchases until I get decent at After Effects. ;) I'd love to follow your progress though, I hope you post some of your work for us to listen to!

Seconded. I have thought about getting into this here and there just never sat down and decided to divert funds towards it.

I finished my Master's in composition in May. I write the piece in Finale, save it as a MIDI, import it into Cubase, and apply VSTs. I use EastWest/Quantum Leap's instrument libraries, but I can only justify the price tag if you intend to do it professionally - altogether, I've got about $5000 USD worth of software, some of it substantially discounted. My music tends to be orchestral, too, which doesn't sound like it's what you want to do.

Ableton Live is good software and probably ideal for you, though I've never used it extensively. I've taught music theory for the past couple years, and I can help with that and other general tips.

Holy shit we recruited the modern day Mozart? Damn we are awesome. Yeah if I got into it, it would be more for electronica, specifically Drum n Bass probably.
