So far my thoughts have been positive with a few bits of.. HUH?
The largest city I got with happy sims was 12000. I had one casino that brought in 32k a day.
The most profitable city I had had a sim pop of 6000 and 170k a day all cansinos but eventually they started to fuck me up in terms of crime and bad influence and costed me more to keep them.
The largest city started to get buildings instead of houses. Apartments and mid size rentals.
This seems to have to do with Roads and Schools and Parks...
Once again not clear on what makes an upgrade. Also some buildings said not enough room to upgrade... SO I would destroy roads but they did nothing.. very weird. I think maybe I needed better roads not offered in beta.
The police/fire/medical/school etc are all ploppables and extend radiuses in your city but more to specific areas of town. You can upgrade the hell out of them. They do their job pretty damn well. I played on speed mode most of the time to get the most done in an hour.
If you play on regular mode you can really take your time it isn't too fast paced. And you can zoom in and see your city quite beautifully.
It is very complex but easy to pick up the basics. The graphics are adorable. Didn't play with filters yet. Don't really care too much about them until I have my own city to keep.
The way your city upgrades itself is a bit confusing at the moment but seems to consist of parks and road types. The more parks and high end roads the better houses that will be build in a neighborhood or store or industrial area.
Industrial DESTROYS LAND fast. But you can place random ass parks to make it richer land... the park system is weird. You place random parks everywhere it and it raises property value... The arch in which these parks effects is a circle.. which makes it equally awkward when building neighborhoods.
It is hard to figure out upgrades and how to get a neighborhood to advance, but the graphs seem to indicate it, but not sure how to get the sims to upgrade from lower to middle to high class iwthout bulldozing or getting lucky. So a mix of low middle and upper class neighborhoods exist.
This is what I have gathered so far from reddit. Enjoy!
These are all specializations. I believe you can have more than one per city. But as per city size it seems like 2 or 3 may be as far as you want to go. Culture being one you can have any city to add tourism.
So choices are:
