This is probably my second most awaited game after Wildstar. I used to play the Space Hulk board game when I was a wee lad, no more than 6 or 7, and this video game looks super promising. The cross platform support is awesome and should really do a lot to keep the servers full of people long after it launches, I hope.

For those unfamiliar with Warhammer 40k, Space Hulk is a turn based strategy board game produced by Games Workshop. It pits a force of hyper-zealous Space Marine Terminators against a tide of Tyranid Genestealers in the narrow corridors of a, you guessed it, space hulk! It's a gripping, tense and a claustrophobic game that really embodies the grim-darkness of the far future.

My first game was in 1998 against my uncle and it has BY FAR been my favorite board game since.

Wikipedia said:
The game is set on a board made up of various board sections which represent corridors and rooms and which can be freely arranged and locked together like a jigsaw puzzle to represent the interior of derelict space ships. One player controls the Space Marines, and the other player controls the Genestealers.
-
The game is notable for its hidden play mechanics, from which it derives much of its playability and tension. The actual number of Genestealers in play is hidden from the Marine player, because the Genestealers come into play as "blips" which can represent: 1-3 creatures - or 0-6 in the Deathwing and Genestealer expansions - in the 1st edition; 0-6 creatures in the 2nd edition; and 1-3 creatures in the 3rd edition. On the other hand, the Marine player has a number of "command points" available each turn which are only revealed to the Genestealer player after they are used up. (In the second edition, the extra points were not hidden from the Genestealer player.)
-
Space Hulk won the Origins Award for Best Fantasy or Science Fiction Boardgame of 1989. Its first expansion, Deathwing, won Best Fantasy or Science Fiction Boardgame of 1990.
-
In the basic versions of the game, playing as the Genestealers can be very straightforward; so simple, in fact, that Space Hulk is playable as a solo game, when playing as the Space Marines against the Genestealers. Playing as the Space Marines on the other hand can be engaging and tactically challenging - partly because the Space Marines player is constrained by a time limit for his or her turn. To overcome this shortfall, players are encouraged to play each game twice, swapping between roles. The fairly fast play time (around half an hour per game), driven by the Space Marines time limitation, makes this a reasonable solution. The expansion packs for the First edition add human-genestealer hybrids, which can carry weapons and equipment, to the Genestealer player's forces, adding more depth to the Genestealer side.

Came for a big angry green man in space... left with a new game I wanna try.

Did anyone else notice the UI in that game is almost identical to the new XCOM?

I have stricken that game from my memory. I know i'm in the minority, but I absolutely hated that game to death so I can't recall its UI. I'm fairly certain this game is made with an updated version of the same engine, though. Pretty sure I read that somewhere.

I was put off by this games graphics and the trailer didn't excite me no decent soundtracks or large ballads.

I'm a big warhammar 40k fan love the novels and pc games but I felt they cut this game down to size to play on an ipad more than a pc which sucks.

Well, if you ever played space hulk the board game you'd understand the lack of "large ballads" etc, it's more of a haunting, claustrophobic theme and I feel they captured it well while maintaining the original games integrity. I'll admit they probably cut it a bit for the iPad but i'm buying it for my pc and iPad so I can't complain. :bananacow:

Steam's selling a 2-pack which will save you a few dollars if you split the costs - let me know if anyone is planning on getting this game!

I'm mulling it over. Dunno if I want to wait 'til it inevitable drops to 15 :p
My problem is that I've been burned too often by preorders, I'm afraid to grab it before it's been reviewed properly.
But at the same time, it's Space Hulk! It's like that 90s PC/PSOne game that I absolutely adored!
Must... stay... strong...

I know man, I'm was going to pre-order but the pre-order bonuses are pretty lackluster. YAY A FLAG POLE. So I held off, I'm gonna await a review and then purchase accordingly.

I just watched TotalBiscuit's review of the game (thanks Valikar !), and I'm definitely going to wait for it to go on sale. Glad I didn't grab it for full price, unfortunately it's not quite what I expected.

Wow. RPS's impression of the game is "like the developers didn’t really care.
And that really sums this scrappy, boring adaptation up. A lack of care. It’s about as bad as it could possibly be. I’ve played through half of the campaign missions, missions that are close to my heart, and I’ve hated every one of them. I stopped at exactly halfway, because the game told me I’d lost a mission I’d just won. And that was the final straw. What an achievement that is, to turn magic into soup. To turn a thing of such celebrated greatness into a thing of such grated celeryness. It sickens me to think that some people will play this game and think that this is what Space Hulk is – a leaden, dated bore. That’s not a Space Hulk I recognise."

Ouch. I'm not touching this game.
What a shame!

I got BURNED after Aliens Col marines which has made me not trust game devs and pre-orders and I am glad I didn't get this game being a massive warhammer 40k fan I would of been double annoyed :p

Oh wow, I narrowly dodged that bullet, only to get hit square in the face by the disaster that was SimCity 5.
Lesson learned, I'm not touching games until they've been reviewed by a trusted source.
