GW2 What do you think of scepter/dagger?

It seems like the most viable build in spvp for eles is scepter/dagger running traits 30 into fire, 0 in crits, 30/0 in earth and whatever in water or arcane. Burst rotation is to ride the lighting, updraft, swap to fire and lay aoes. Water and earth for utilities. Run cantrips on utilty for tankiness and maybe signet of earth depending on play style to set up big aoes.

What do you think? Sounds like the avg. tank ele? I thought this rotation was very durable and puts out some sustained dps but has literally no spike whatsoever (since they got hit hard with the dmg reduction). Problem is that their rotation is highly predictable and any time the ele uses ride the lightning it's an instant cue to dodge backwards to evade the kb.

Thoughts on where the ele might stand in a 5-man team? Can any players who are more familiar with eles chime in? I picked up the ele a few hours before the servers went down so I didn't get a chance to go through the intricacies of the class. I played a few games with the guild and Kali was running a pretty strong ele but I wasn't paying attention to the weapon set. What are other strong builds being played aside from scepter/dagger?

Wow I didn't see this post at all. I basically posted my build in the other thread, but here it is again if you didn't see it yet or anyone else.

POW/PRE/VIT

Sigils of Blood (30% to life health on crit) and Air (30% to lightning strike on crit).

6 Runes of Divinity (+10 to all stats 3% to crit damage)

Scepter/dagger is one of the most popular ones right now for solo queues.

This is the way I play.

I stay in lightning most of the time.
My combo is RTL > Updraft > (Lightning Strike > Blinding Flash > Arcane Blast > Arcane Wave) I'm pretty sure these are all instants and unloads all my damage onto them in the first knockdown if it hits. Blinding flash is there for when they get up they're usually going to fire something off on me. So whatever the first attack is they're going to miss.

Depending on if I'll be needing area control or healing, I'll shift into Fire or Water.

For point control:
I drop down a Ring of Fire on the edge of the circle so that half the fire runs through the point.
Dragon's Tooth to try and make them dodge and Phoenix to make them dodge again. If these hit, that's even better. ^^
Then try and drop a Fire Grab on them while they're burning.

Usually by this time I'll need some healing and sometimes even before I drop all the fire spells.

For healing and damage mitigation:
Frost Aura first then Cleansing Wave, and I cast Water Trident in the direction I'm running in. And I try to always cast Glyph of Elemental Harmony in water attunement because it gives regen. I also try to drop Glyph of Elementals if I'm being focused or need more healing. The heal on the water elemental will give me at least half my health back.

Then I usually switch back to lightning attunement for more damage.

I rarely use earth unless I know I need more control and the other ones are on cooldown. Earthquake and Dust Devil are a PBAOE knockdown and Blind respectively.

I know you can play elly more optimal than this, but it seems to be extremely mobile and perfect for my play style. This usually takes a squishy down to half health. Its burst isn't as comparable to warrior100b build so don't expect magic to happen. lol I'm not sure what other specs are viable, but from all the BWEs I've been a part of this one was the best fit for me. I've tried dagger/dagger glass cannon, staff area support, and scepter/focus condition builds and they were all either too squishy or too slow to make a difference. I can imagine staff area support being very good in tourneys because of all the combo buffs you can gain from it. Hope this helped~

Kali,
I am assuming you stack Berz jewelry to not be so squishy from your Pow/Pre/Vit?

For playstyle, i would warn that only ring of fire and dragons tooth have burning components so throwing phoenix first and then dragons tooth would increase the chances of tagging them as well as getting the Firegrab for even more damage

goodness while they still burn for that short duration. Burning rage trait works really well with the spike damage from Firegrab. I used a similar build to this and it is quite good for sPvP when you know you will be running alone most of the time.

For fun I ran something like this with the scepter/dagger.

I call this my "can't catch me" build. Staying in air means a passive speed buff up to swiftness level from the One with Air trait. Stack that with updraft for crazy run speed away from those nasty melees. Staying at the edge of range and using the channeled arc lightning gets some serious damage with little retribution. If they decide to ignore you, queue the RTL chain you just explained. Written in stone trait means you can pop off the signets as much as you want. This one still needs a bit of work obviously but the playstyle I used worked well as long as I didn't try to be a hero.

I personally didn't last long as an earth ele. You always get outlasted by Warrs and guardians stacking Vit and toughness. Better to just go Glass Canon or some other variation. Stacking in air and fire really is best way to ensure you're credit to team. With water you aren't as effective at healing as a Guardian stacked in the honor attribute either.

During the stress test yesterday, I don't know whether it was just me being rusty but survivability on my ele was pretty iffy. Had to switch up to having mist form on my bar which is a huge help. Though, it could be because I was in nothing but random pugs that refused to work together. *sigh* But the scepter/dagger build that i have up there was working well enough for me to win over half my games.

I can see that its been months since this thread was active but I'm new so I thought I would add my two cents. I don't have the experience that others have but since I hit 70 I started experimenting with scepter/dagger and its a great build for those that either include alot of protection based skills, or vitality/toughness in their stats....or can really dodge. I probably die too often but its a learning process for me and I don't mind that because I want to be more than a stand in the back and pew pew elementalist, thats why I chose the class...battlemage ftw
