So I was bored and looking at some kill videos and noticed something interesting. I went googling to see if anyone else had noticed or could confirm what I was seeing, and turns out, I was correct.
There is a pretty distinct pattern to who is targeted when for big bombs, which is coincidentally the reason that everyone takes two tanks... for when the MT gets the big bomb.
For a rough 5 minute kill, whoever is tanking the boss gets the big bomb every 4th time. More specifically, in our last two X89 kills, the MT was big bombed the fourth time at 1:41 and 1:38 (down 1 and down 2) on the first go around, big bombed the eighth time at 3:06 and 3:11, and big bombed the twelfth time at 4:39 and 4:42. As you can see, there is a distinct correlation behind the timing of the bombs between just about every run I have watched (+/- 5 or six seconds).
This is something Voodoo implemented at some point, using only one tank and having a DPS with cool downs and a taunt fill the second tank spot during big bomb time. I have not seen of video of this happening.
My theory is we have a DPS essentially taunt at 1:35 and pop a CD, so that they take the big bomb from the tank, allowing the MT to stay on the boss at all times.
I ran the numbers and even if our sacrificial DPS only parsed at 3,000 (due to respeccing a bit to take a taunt and a cd or two), it would save us about 20 seconds of time.
Given that we are extremely close to the imbuement threshold, this might be something worth considering.
As an example, if we used Spicy as our guinea pig and he switched to tank stance, popped VI and SI (or even his innate) for the worst case scenario of having to eat snipe, I am 99% certain he would be able to eat the damage, as well as pull 4k DPS.
Let me know your thoughts.
