What role do you wish to play in the guild? For example: PvP, PvE, Casual/Social
I've put in about 250 hours of mostly PvE. I haven't played much of the sPvP at all, but that is mostly due to having to deal with random people who run in circles attacking trees. I've enjoyed WvW a lot, but I've only played it enough to hit monthly achievements the last couple months. In WvW, I love the organization and tactics that can be deployed to win strategic battles, but without a large group of people who enter battle with, I'm left hoping the commander on the field knows what he/she is doing, and that other people are listening to them as much as I am (which is rarely the case). This usually puts me in the middle of a zerg trying to dish out more than i'm taking in, instead of the true large team work that should be happening. For now, i've been working on exploring, building up my karma, and completing achievements. I hope to work towards a legendary at some point, but money is tight, and I find too many cosmetic improvements as I go along in order save anything.
Which previous MMO's or online games have you played and how long for?
Guild Wars 1 was what really got me into MMOs. I played Guild Wars and all of it's expansion through with quite a few characters. I focused mostly on PvE, specializing in solo/dual UW/FoW farming, and "running" (helping low level chars advance for profit). A friend of mine and I helped create a few run areas, and together destroyed the market on a few of the others by undercutting the competition because we figured out how to do missions the most efficient way possible. Throughout GW1, I developed a nasty habit of reading GWG forums, finding a nice farming spot, making a new char, or re-specing one i had, spending a gratuitous amount of money buying gear to farm the spot, trying out the farm, not liking it, and starting over. By the end, I knew how to kill anything anywhere, but I was completely broke.. always fighting for a few more coins to try out the next build.
My time with WoW was short but sweet, I played for a couple of months, and the week that I hit lvl 85, D3 came out, then GW2, and I haven't been back.
Before GW1, I played D2:LOD night and day, farming Baal runs not stop and collecting keys to do Uber runs. Before D2 was SC:BW, which I've put countless hours into with a group of friends. Nothing like playing a 8v8 melee game with hidden alliances starting and stopping continuously. "You attack him, and I'll follow up when your troops start to die so he doesn't know were working together. What? you've attacked him? your army is dead? sounds like i should attack you instead.. better chances of winning, ehh?" good times.
Were you a part of a guild? What was your experience?
I was in a large alliance in GW1, we had 3 or 4 guilds set up under the same "umbrella" of leadership. Each guild focused on a different aspect. The main guild was for the veterans of the alliance, and we just bullshitted and farmed, or progressed with new characters. There was a guild for recruits, that I helped lead, we would find people, help them through the game, help them gear up, train them on a couple ways to make money, and if they were drama free and fun to hang out with, they were promoted up to the main guild. We had 2 guilds for PvP, one only for guild wars, and one for Hero's Ascent. I created and ran the Hero's Ascent team until we'd grown enough to have a player base for nightly battles, and have some people left over to train the newer people on our team tactics. Once we had a good balance going, I returned to the recruiting guild to lend my help.
How did you hear about the Guild?
I've been watching the Pod Casts since the beginning. I've been running solo or in small guilds here and there since launch, but i've been really wanting to get into dungeons and WvW, and I love the guild events that you guys/gals have talked about. Nice work on the costumes by the way, mummies and the rice farming / king / ninja had me going for a while.
What will you bring to the ALTTABME community? (Chatty? Skilled? Funny? Helping?)
I think we all understand that some of the end-game grinding gets tiresome. I find myself targeting a random player in LA and mimicking their every move. Surprisingly enough, it almost always come down to a chase through the city as they try to evade me. When i'm out grinding Karma in the straights, when i'm not calling out active dynamic events, i'm usually BSing about weapon or armor skins, item drop rates, tactics for this-or-that, or just cracking jokes and having a good time. When the halloween event started, i traveled to queensdale and found a couple people willing to help me make a map of the candy corn nodes. We would party up and run around the map calling out anything we found, and I'd mark it on a map and continue on. Anyone dynamic events I came across I'd help out the low-levels and move on. I've had a lot of luck with meeting friendly people in Guild Wars, and I think that's the reason I'll be sticking with GW2 for a long while.
Will Arcanix be the only guild you join?
I've joined a couple of Guilds since launch, but they were both hybrid WoW / GW guilds. Ever since MoP came out, the guild is void of people, and I find myself playing solo 100% of the time just with a guild tag on my name. The opportunity to have access to a guild with active members and a supportive community is just something I couldn't pass up. If I am invited in, i'm sticking with it until death do us part.
Is there anything else you would like to throw in here at the end?
I'd love to have the chance to dance through LA or fight through WvW with Arcanix. I believe I would be a great addition to the team. I work from home, live with my girlfriend, and keep odd gaming hours, so those of you who play at 8-10 am EST, or 7-9 pm EST would have someone to fight the endless waves of skeleton beasts with. I'm always up for something new, and I learn fast. I'd love to fight the good fight with you lot.
I've included a screenshot of my Norn. I'm still working on my main armor. I'm thinking Norn cultural chest.. but not sure about the legs/boots.
My main armor (power / vit / thoughness w/ melandru's runes) is on the left. And my full MF armor is on the right.
