Ok I know we have a huge thread on what you are currently listening to, but seeing as how games(and movies) are a huge part of our free time and some of them have awesome music to accompany the gameplay I figure we need a thread. I am going to mention ahead of time Jeremy Soule, simply because he is way too epic to confine to someones single favorite pick. He composed Guild Wars 2's music, Skyrim's music, and the list goes on.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution has an amazing soundtrack by Michael McCann

Frankly you cant go wrong travelling the wasteland with old school music in Fallout

Half Life 2 has an awesome soundtrack with perfectly timed and paced music throughout the game in a futuristic, cyberpunkish theme

Here's one whose work everyone's heard (of) at some point: Clint Mansell.
He manages to create quite haunting compositions. His Lux Aeterna piece is well-known, even by those people who haven't seen "Requiem for a Dream":

"The Fountain":

From the movie "The Moon":

He's also composed music for "Mass Effect 3" and "Black Swan".

Bastion. If you haven't played this game do so. All of the music is wonderous. And the game is just heart wrenching. One of the best games I've ever played. The feels man... The feels... The Music guy on the team is named Darren Korb.

And if you're going to cover one Elderscrolls game, don't you dare neglect the other musical masterpieces throughout the series! Of all of them my favorite is and always will be Morrowind, but to each his own. That game also holds the happiest memories of my life and I get a bit emotional everytime I hear the music.

And here's one from fallout new vegas I like that isn't on the radio.

Also I don't care for horror movies but it gives me an excuse to post a tiny tim song. Insidious

Maybe this is cheating, but they have been made into movies- Phantom of the Opera, Sweeny Todd, and Little Shop of Horrors. For instrumental, I like the 25th Anniversary Legend of Zelda CD that I got with Skyward Sword.

I agree, Mod.. Bastion's music was amazing. It fit so well with the mood/story.

LOVE this song (that you linked above):
!

Someone on the guru forums posted Bastion music and I was instantly hooked on it. I have yet to play the game (I want to!), but I listen to the music pretty often. Nice to see it mentioned here as well as Morrowind and Skyrim. Great music.

Can't forget this though:

I tried to make this a playlist but the forums won't let me. :( Search Ultima Online playlist if you want the whole thing.

I've listened to this remix often since I downloaded it back in the early 2000's.

And if you want to listen to something a little creepy, I absolutely love the American Mcgee's Alice soundtrack:

My favorite:

It doesn't quite have the same effect if you haven't played the game, sadly. I was in a very deep depression when I first played Alice, and it helped me cope. The game and music both mean a lot to me.

Chrono Trigger's soundtrack is the reason I decided to become a composer.

For now, I'll leave you with a piece from the old PC RPG Arcanum. The entire soundtrack is purely string quartet, with just minimal percussion on a couple of tracks. Very melancholy, achingly beautiful, and evocative of the 19th-century steampunk aesthetic. The counterpoint in the main theme is impeccable.

well.. as my internet is severely restricted at work atm i'll just mention it and you guys look for it on youtube...
Final Fantasy 11 complete OST - THE BEST OST EVER COMPOSED!!!! go ahead... search for

I went exploring the world in FFXI when I was only about level 12. It was pretty awesome dodging all the baddies. Zi'tah was the last place I got to before I had to log off that day, and it was instantly my favorite zone. Dat Music! <3 Seconded that FFXI music is amazing!

wow! i'm actually quite impressed you got to Zi'tah on a lv12 job, that takes some serious skill or a huge amount of gil *octo3*

I wish I was on my own computer, so I could show you screenshots. It was only a couple of weeks after the game was released in North America, so I had no gil, lol. I was wearing this: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Scale_Mail_Set (I was a warrior)
There were actually a few of us that went together. Knowing what mobs aggro to helps a ton.
Sneaking by a gobbie while he has his back turned is an awesome feeling. *LOVVVE*

Back on topic: I love Zelda music. But who doesn't, really? The original music gives me that wonderful nostalgic feeling, but the remixes are fun to listen to mixed in with my other music.
Dubstep:

I'm not that knowledgeable about dubstep, so I can't say how it measures up to other dubstep artists, but youtube seems to like it.

Rock/Metal:

He has a _lot_ of Zelda covers. I would say that 90+% of them are awesome. <3

Megaman. Hands down. Beats all you fuckers.

Hells yes! <3

So hard.. to not post.. 30 bloody Megaman songs x.x

Final Fantasy music in general is pretty amazing. I remember going back to Fisherman's Horizon and Deling City in FFVIII over and over for the music.

Gotta love these as well:

Also Sweeney Todd and The Nightmare Before Christmas ;)

Made me lol so much. Happy bouncy music about preparing people pies out of poets and priests. xD The ending is the most epic scene evar, but do not wish to post for spoiler reasons. :p

Hehe, ADD Jack ftw.

Some Music from the great Frank Sinatra. Fall Out games.

A little bit of Final Fantasy 10. All time greatest Final Fantasy game
