GW2 Easily one of the best Staff Sword/Torch Video Guides EVER

tr1age, I have watched this build video multiple times already. I applaud Nuu for giving out so much tech at this early stage of the game. I'm curious why you're interested in Mesmer actually. Starting out GW1 as a Monk and Necromancer, I was very disillusioned (pun intended) to the premise of the Mesmer. It took me a good 3 or 4 months of getting my foot in the PvP door to realize that Mesmer wasn't a class I just wanted to play... I NEEDED to play it.

Coming from playing fighting games from a very early age, I quickly realized how much of a control element there was. A simple move set with broad utility. Many skills that weren't straightforward, but had great uses.

While I doubt that most of my GW1 Mesmer tech will transfer directly, I'm curious to see how much I can apply when I get in game... Right now all I can do is theory craft.

As for the video, I immediately conceded with many of the strategic points Nuu makes... Dodging damage... Making sure to back up, realizing invisible doesn't mean invincible... Etc. SO so much of that is present in fighting game tech it's not even funny... Knowing your option selects, know how to block correctly... Controlling space, using block strings to capitalize on mistakes your opponents make, knowing what reversals you have and the most IMPORTANT: being able to play footsies. If you're not familiar, footsies is knowing the exact spacing of your normal moves (as opposed to just your special moves) and forcing your opponent to risk something where you know you have a guaranteed hit. After your foot is in the door, it's a matter of just compounding each mistake. They practically kill themselves for you like the warrior he mentioned.

Nuu's point about being cute is a very good one... I would akin that to what we like to refer to as "playing shenanigans" or using "gimmicks"... While they may work initially, they aren't solid and don't provide versatility in the long run. So my favorite part of the video is where he realizes that choosing traits just because they inherently look good... Is not the best way about it.

I'm definitely going to be keeping an eye on his stuff... Good find for sure.

After playing with the Mesmer now for a good chunk of game time. I find that yes the "Cute" factor to skills is there. And that is causing issues with the class as a whole. Because a HUGE CHUNK of what you can do is for "flash" effect. When I am on another character I never lose the mesmer in the fight, but that being said, I know how I search for them and when i am on my mesmer I make sure to do the opposite.

I think this is why I get frustrated a lot with the Mesmer, they FEEL right, but at times they just don't perform right.
