What's new

What's in a name?

well.. my turn.
I started my MMORPG legend back in 2002 with FFXI, back in those days an RPG known as Vagrant Story was still a fresh memory (somewhat), in said game there was a weapon known as the "Tovarisch" or comrade in russian, a 2h weapon being a mace on one side and an axe on the other... Very cool weapon, anyway.. being my last name Tovar I felt somewhat of a conection to it, and thus "Thovarisk" was born a very proud Sand'Orian.

Fun fact I still carry that name to just about everything I play or do. And I still feel very proud of being born a Sand'Orian.

Dash

Huge Star Wars fan. Shadows of the Empire is one of my favorite console games in Star Wars. Dash Rendar was the lead. Awesome character. Fakes his own death and everything. And I loved what the name implied. I always liked the idea of being faster and quicker rather than slower and with more durability.

Eventually it evolved into Dashel.

The other name I go by is Cor. Short for Corianna, which is a name I give a female caster in MMOs. Usually an arcane/enchanter type. Mesmer in GW2. This name is a derivative of the main character in the first novel I ever attempted to write. His name was Corinath. It's still one of my favorite names. Corinath. Corianna.

Unfortunately I picked Coriane before I realized I could have a last name in GW2. It does bother me though, and I may actually start my Mesmer over completely just to do a name change.

But Dash is the callsign. A bunch of non-MMO RL friends call me Dash also. It just became a nickname.

I *love* names though. Finding the perfect name for a character always feels amazing. There's always something about it that seems to fit to me.

Asura Theif - Aryn Syril - Ferocity
Sylvari Necro - Raziel Vine - Ferocity (Both Raziel and Vine are supposedly names of fallen angels)
Human Ele - Dashel Windstrom - Dignity
Human Mesmer - Coriane - Charm
Human ??? - Corinath - Charm

My legend starts a little more recent then most of yours. For many years i have been a hardcore console player. I played many hours of Call of duty (i know i will get trolled) many hours of final fantasy 7 and the best of the series 10. Plus some oblivion and skyrim. Well i never really understood the concept of playing on a computer.

I tried WoW on my old laptop which was a mistake because it was a POS. Graphics were horrible and it was just a bad experience. I played a lot of DC Universe online on my PS3 and it was a decent game but there was something missing. I tried SWTOR on my old laptop as well. I recently got a new laptop to help me with work and it runs my games perfectly. But back to the nickname, i just never had a good imagination for names. I always hit the random button. When i started guild wars 2 though, my name came right to me. I shall be called the Mighty Baldorax. And if you made it this far into my story thank you for reading.

I completely agree Dash. I spend longer on picking the right name than I do on making the character on many occasions ^_^

I wanted Sayuri from Memoirs of a Geisha, fricken loved that book/movie, but it was taken in Warhammer Online. So here I am with the "a" at the end.

Not a very cool story, bro, I know.

I actually really like the sound track from that movie.

I fucking love fishsticks.
I gotta be honest, since I saw your first post a few days ago I've been anxiously waiting to find out why you use that name. This response and your avatar are the perfect fucking response.

If I was wearing a hat, I'd tip it your way

Yeah I've only had about 3 handles my entire life, this one just came about in the past year or so because everyone thinks it's funny that I eat fishsticks on a pretty frequent basis.

Whatever, they're delicious and everyone knows it. :alien7:

Fish sticks are one of the best foods in don't starve. Gives back health and hunger. The only problem is getting them cause you have to kill spiders and dodge those damn gangs of frogs. If you bring pig friends along though its win.

Everyone pretty much has some sort of story about how they came up with their gaming nickname.... Not me! Or not really anyways. Fish is actually my last name. In high school, my gym teacher started calling me "Fish" and it has pretty much stuck with me. In fact, I'm 100% certain that 1/2 the people in my graduating class didn't know my first name, until it was called during the graduation ceremony. =P

Oh man, I started out as Arixx around 1999 during EQ. The name itself was inspired from Trigun.
And being the wee lad that I was, I thought this was the most brilliant sig EV5R.

Awhile after that my 'pet name'/shortened name was just Ari, though I was occasionally using other names like Kosimov, Paroro, and Seilca.
Sarival is a recent name I've been using because not only does it include Ari, but it has a generally nice sound to it. Also it's really easy to split up and morph into several other names for alts<3

My name is actually just made up gibberish. I just think it sounds nice. Hyomicca (High-yah-mick-uh). It gives me a nice nickname (Hyo. People usually say Hi-o). And no one ever takes it in a game because it's a random sequence of characters.

I see the name Sarival and think serval as in serval cat. Jump to 2m mark to see some acrobatics. People keep these as pets, but its as much work as keeping a baby.
