What's in a name?

I'm thinking flatulance may be what he was referring to.. or maybe that's just what I thought.
Funny story, my friend Isaac has a recurring thing whenever someone says that the galewinds are blowing. He always makes a fart joke to fuck with me. On a side note, love your tag man. Oryx and Crake was a great book!

So my name came about just to mess with my real life friends. Every shooter I played I would abuse grenades. Eventually I just decided to use this handle so my friends would know that 90% of the times I killed them was random grenades.

WoW, Blood Elf Priest, RP, My Epic(for me ) own story little based on Arthas' lore. The evil Priest Master turning on the dark side of the force, his last student is so frustrated that he wants to find out alone why his master left the light side. He died trying to do this but he has beed ressurected as a Necromancer of Death, then he was so mad that he killed his master and ran away from azeroth. He found a great race in Netherstorm, he found chance to cure and be still alive.... but the final component of the spell doesnt exist in azeroth and even in outland, he even doesnt know if it really exists.... so he is locked there half-cured by medics ..... he just exists and waitin for a chance....

So i get used to his name, and his history. I started to identify with him and here we go, its my nickname :p

Sweetloaf is a "fortunate typo" made by me while I was creating a character in Runescape 10 or so years ago. It was originally going to be Sweatloaf, after the Butthole Surfers song. (Big fan.) I was told Sweetloaf was far less gross sounding so I stuck with it. I have only recently begun to use it in other games, though. My handles during WoW were Adict (horde), after The Adicts, and Pastaroni (alliance) from the I Voted For Kodos song of the same name.

I really like music. :)

Every time I see your name I think sweetroll and then I do my best Skyrim guard impression. "Awww what's the matter? Did somebody steal your sweet roll?"

Here's mine, plain and simple. I stole Dainjre and I'm not afraid to admit it. Originally, in Achaea, I was Roh. I got this from the anime/manga Nabari no Ou, which I would recommend to people who like drama and action, from one of the ninja factions called the Kyrohshuu. Roh means wolf in Japanese. I kept the Roh moniker for well over 2 years on Achaea, and when I decided to stop playing for the billionth time and go to League of Legends 3 years ago, Roh was already taken. I picked out a name from Achaea that stuck out to me, Dainjre, because the name was unique and he was a cool guy that I taught Bard combat to. Then when I was going to SWTOR, I made two characters, Roh, a sith assassin and Dainjre, my bounty hunter. I liked my bounty hunter better, and kinda have just rolled with it since. JA-JAN.

An ancestor of mine back in the 15 hunderts was actually called Euchale Blum. He was the guy who collected the stuff our village produced and delivered it to the next city.
The name comes from the old swabian (which is a dilect in bavaria) word: Euch which means Oak. And the fruits/nuts they produce are called euchale. There is one more related word, than you have all of them: Euchkätzle (Eichhöhrnchen in German) which means squirrel.

Oh and I use it because thats how we call my grandfathers family and I liked it, and it´s unique.

I have a second alias that I usually use for my twink is Ichselber, which translates to myself.

For any other name I use a dictionary that is always close to me. This is how my chars Nitrous and Trump were created. I know I am highly creative!

Love this thread .... a great idea.

Kotou is actually a new name for me. I have visited Japan three times for work and as a result have started to learn Japanese. (A slow process but I am looking forward to going back to Japan again and being able to communicate effectively in Japanese rather than English.)
Thus I chose "Kotou" (ことう) because amoung other things it means "old sword".

I have had many names and like Dash I enjoy trying to find the right name for the character.

If you are learning Japanese right now, you should check this out: http://kotaku.com/an-rpg-that-teaches-you-japanese-1531873089

My nickname is short and simple, most people ask if im from Hawaii. But I will never forget that moment watching Cheech and Chong's movie Up in Smoke while looking for a character name and I heard "Whats in this shit man?, Mostly Maui Wowie. And it just kind of stuck from there lol.

I don't have a really good story to tell about the origins of my name. I used World of Warcraft random name generator to get "Amar" and added the "-es" because it was taken. I'm really uncreative with my names and I decided to keep it throughout all the other games I've played. Because of my desire to keep the name I have an issue when it comes to naming my alts so for Wild Star I started adding words that end with "-am" .... thus resulting in the Clamares that I play with now.

I've had a habit of using foreign language to name characters for a long time. Unfortuatly as people talk, they too soon catch on to the amusement in this.
Therefore I started with forum names for food in German back in the BBS days, Kase being one that stuck. I tried horse (Pferd) and a few others but they always ended up backfiring.
Soon enough though, those few good German names were taken too often so I had to change to a new format.

Moved to French foods like Pomme (apple), Cacahuete (peanut), Fromage (cheese), etc.

Peanut stuck for a short time in FFXI and AO, but no one could say it so it became Fromage. The first character was Hommard et Fromage. A pet class where I was cheese and my pet was named lobster. From that point on the name stuck and its been about 10 years now. The worst confusion I ever got with Fromage is if they thought I was a mage with big hair, which happened to me every week or so in vanilla WoW, and sporadically after until I quit. Quite funny that one; "Hey make water.... WTF, you're a Shaman!?"

I tried using some Japanese based names or other languages, but Cheese just stuck. It stuck so much that to this day some wow friends, and even their kids refer to me as Cheese in person. I think all of my cheesy jokes help to re-enforce the name.

My name is normally JRON in games because back in my freshman year of HS I was playing Halo: ODST with a couple of guys and we were trying to get our last vidmaster challenge. It was endurance, which took up to about 4 hours to get. Before we started we said we were gonna set our 4 character callsign as our names so we could easily find whos who. My name is Jordan so I set my callsign to JRDN with in Halo text got confused by my buddy as JRON and it kinda stuck. Not the most exciting story but that night, trying to get endurance was like no other. It took 4 hours just to do it once and we were one wave away from completing it when my mom gets home from work and runs the washer and dryer and the electricity shuts off in my house and everybodys game got fucked up. So, we started it, AGAIN. It was another 4 hours before we could finally finish but after that long playing that hard game it was like war. You learn things about the guys you're in the foxhole with.

Hello everyone! This will be my first post for the community so don't be to judgmental ok.
My nickname, McGraken, originated back when I was in high school. we had a school provided username to access our grades. It was the first 5 letters of your last name and the first 3 of your first. My full name being Kenneth McGraw made it easy for my friend sitting next to me to point it out. We tried it out for a while in our online gaming, ranging from LoL (league of legends), Starcraft 2 HOTS, D&D, ESO, and various free to play games. It grew on me after a while and has stuck to me ever since.
Not the most interesting story but it created a great nickname that my friends and I have enjoyed using.
