Not sure if many of you know but Rift (the MMO not the Occulus helmet) is going F2P next week. I played the shit out of this game back in vanilla, tried it with the latest expansion, but it didn't feel worth it to me to pay and play. I'm definitely going back to this game at no cost as a MMO that I can play to pass the time.

The game goes F2P June 12th but is currently F2P up until level 20. I was hoping we could start a guild where all our members can play together. Let's pick a server and have some free fun.

Here's an update from MMO-Champion on what RIFT is and how it does things differently.

I've been waiting for it to go F2P before getting into it (as a time sink). Only thing is that I'm hearing a lot of cash shop "P2W" speculations. That's the only thing that has made me go "eh..."

You will still need to raid to get the best gear. They are giving you the option to buy gear to help you get into raiding. Instead of running those dungeons over and over to get an item you need, you can buy it instead. This does not go for the best tier of raiding though.

There will also be a lot of cosmetic and quality of life things. Cool looking gear/mounts. The ability to buy more profession, soul slots, or bag slots.

I got a free copy of the game and 30 free days to get me through until ftp from Raptr but I'm still sitting at level 1 in the starter area. I'm not sure if I am motivated enough by boredom to play a non action combat game now. If a bunch of people are starting out when it goes ftp I might join in.

That's the only downside. The combat is very wow-esk and not action oriented at all. If you don't mind that style the game and its soul system offers a lot to the MMO min/maxer.

Rift really was a pretty good game and I think Trion are good developers. But I had a horrible experience with their customer service when my account was hacked, that resulted in me losing ownership of my copy of the game (after paying the $120 for the collectors edition :/). So the chances of me ever giving Trion money again, are slim.

I don't intend to spend a dime on any placeholder game I might play while waiting for Wildstar.

I think i have only ever put serious money into DCUO lol never really did the whole gift shop in other games

That's a shame. I've always had good encounters with their customer service on a wide array of issues. They were always quick and able to do what they could to fix it.

I won't probably spend any more money on this game. I subbed for many many months. I'll just enjoy a well polished game for free.

If you haven't played Rift before or if you make a fresh account, you can get free
Full Game + Expansion + 30 Day Subscription
from Raptr.

For those playing, what server? I'm just sitting at level 1 so I can reroll wherever. Can't promise I'll get into it, though. Just not digging the combat at all. But free is free and boredom sucks.

Also, you don't have to play all the required hours to get the free stuff. I left it on the character creation screen all night and woke up with free goodies. It was like Christmas morning only slightly less exciting and without fuzzy PJs and my mom's homemade coffee cake.

Is a PvP or PvE server preferred? The game blurs the lines on PvE and PvP because with all the group finder and cross realm stuff you end up playing with the other faction alot. The only difference really would be encountering someone in the open world. On PvE servers you can even have a mix of Defiant and Guardian characters.

Depending on which server type we pick I'll reroll on a new server and let everyone know which we choose.

Also, the game is F2P now if you've ever had a sub before. New players will need to wait until June 12th or try Rift Lite until then.

I just logged into that, setup and account downloaded the client and realized.. when fuck me, I am on my mac cause my PC is in the shop hahahahhahahaha Fail.

I am currently on Deepwood, PvE. That's where I have the most characters. If we want to reroll on a new server/PvP server let me know.
