Pathfinder - TAB Edition!

If you two are really interested, just let us know and post your characters when you have the opportunity :) Eventually I'll get word on Red on if he wants more than you two or not, but I know we were looking for at least two people.[DOUBLEPOST=1374605579,1374605534][/DOUBLEPOST]Oh! And we statted based on a 20 point spend scale I believe. No need for someone to watch over your rolls or anything like that.

Mind if I roll for stats? Also I was serious about the alienist, if I get the OK from Red Omen I will roll up an elf druid and get started on it.

If anyone else is interested post here. There may be more more spot(s) available. It is super fun and Red Omen is a great DM I think Anxiety may have shown some interest at one point.

Here is a video of our first session of play back when we were all noobs except for Mike B. This will give you an idea of what pathfinder looks like on google hangout and the stuff we do when we play

Ahh, yes, the manliness of Ba'Rah the Barbarian Bear Fucker who is now Demitek the Ranger. lol

Red let me be a specialist rogue called a knife master. If alienist is a specalist branch of druid he probably will.

Its a prestige class, but one of the prereqs is that you have to have made contact with far outsiders (aliens) and it makes you go insane and you start growing tentacles and other horrendous features and so do the monsters you summon from the summon monster abilities.

.... That sounds freakin awesome. And... Might... Play into... what's going on? Inter-planar things aren't necessarily aliens are they... hmmm...

All up to Red. lol. (It's nice to default questions to someone else!)

Its close enough of a stretch I'd guess. And yes, I've always wanted to play one... figured I'd ask. I can always do something else though if its not kosher.

It does kinda fit with the storyline so far, by coincidence.
Yeah, we've had a lot of... weird shit happening lol. Seems like bodily experiments with plane-hopping/altering beings. Weird shit. Still confused wtf happened really haha

I want in, I've been trying to get into tabletop rpgs for years and there is a severe lack of DWARF in your party. Give me like, 30 minutes and I'll be all up in this with a character. I've never played Pathfinder, but I played a couple D&D campaigns a few years ago for laughs. Nothing serious though, so I may still have no idea what I'm doing.

Aaaaahhhhh things happening!

The first thing to do is to read all of my posts in the first page of this thread. I'll try to answer some questions.

Pathfinder is a third-party modification of 3.5e. You'll see lots of familiar things, but be sure to read various entries carefully to see what's changed. Druid's Wild Shape, for example, is completely different.

A synopsis of the campaign so far:

Our heroes woke up on the floor of a cart, their hands bound by rope. They escaped after the cart lost a wheel, but the panicked driver urged them to get back inside. A dark shape snatched him away, then attacked the party - a large, unnaturally agile monstrosity with a black carapace, knife-like appendages, and the ability to spit acid. The party routed it, but not before severing one of its legs.

After searching the woods for signs of civilization, aiding a fighter and a monk against some wolves in the process, everyone arrived in the village of Erholtz. The townspeople were not only standoffish or even hostile, but their physiques were tall and spindly and they had a bizarre fluidity to their movements. A man curtly directed them to Klaus, a shopkeeper and the only normal person in the village, who introduced them to a rambling drunk named Erik. He slurred something about how things were different in town, everyone spending all their time at the meeting hall. The party stayed the night at the inn, but the ranger and monk slept in trees outside. During the night, a dark figure passed through the courtyard and inspected a ruined plinth where a statue once stood. The monk had a hard time focusing on the figure, her eyes sliding off of it, but once it realized she was aware of it, the figure turned. Its face was covered, but the shape of its mask burned itself into the monk's brain.

The following morning, they found the rubble around the pedestal to be traced with a fine pattern - overlapping circles of varying size. Storming into the meeting hall for some answers, and found the townsfolk (presumably) worshiping a large stone slab etched in the same chaotic pattern of circles that they noticed on the rubble. One of them angrily led the group away from the slab to a warehouse, where he ambushed them with flashbang powder but was handily cut down. Inside the warehouse was a trap door to the Erholtz Underworks, a dungeon full of tortured corpses and one tortured non-corpse, an old man named Firuz. The mendicant priest seemed sane despite the black demonic carapace that had consumed his arm, and he was invited to follow and support the party over the ranger's objections. They plowed through rooms full of cultists, corrupted hounds, and demonspawn, before finally confronting their high priest. He drew on the corruption in Firuz's arm, turning the poor cleric into a hulking monstrosity (but not before earning Firuz an arrow in the face from the paranoid ranger). The party vanquished them both, and took a ladder up to the surface - emerging directly from behind the slab in the meeting hall, and greeted by a mob of enraged cultists.

The adventurers advanced slowly, cutting down townspeople, until they made it outside and found more cultists and a lumbering, corrupted beast, this time covered in frost. They slew everything, eventually taking down the ice beast with incendiary grease and flasks of alchemist's fire. Finally, they escaped into the forest and arrived at a small grove containing a small pool of water and an old tapestry depicting the pool's latent healing properties. It was only here in the safety of the grove that they realized that as long as they'd been in the forest, there had been an oppressive, almost choking weight on their chests the entire time.

The Pathfinder SRD (System Reference Document) is, indeed, almost the entire Core Rulebook, plus some third-party stuff.

Evilcat - Some of those munchkin things you mentioned scare me a little. I've asked Gyoin to hold back on the wizard cheese, and goes to anyone playing a full caster. D&D 3.5e and Pathfinder both have a huge gulf in power between wizards, clerics, druids, and sorcerers (with their ability to rewrite reality) and, for example, barbarians (with their ability to hit thing with sword). The Launch Bolt trick is even scarier when you realize that in Pathfinder, cantrips can be cast infinitely. So that's a definite no.

dainjre - We are using point buy 20, not rolling for stats, to keep everyone on an equal footing. Druid/Alienist would be perfect for this campaign. Like, beyond perfect. So far the campaign has taken place in a forest, and it's centered around their encounters with eldritch horrors. Some things to know about the Alienist, however:

- The class requires 8 ranks in Knowledge (Planes), which in 3.5e would require you to be at least 5th level. We're level 3. Pathfinder has changed things so it's a max of one rank per level (not per level + 3), so you would require five ranks. It works out to be the same. You also need 3rd-level spells which, again, aren't available until you're level 5.
- Key thing to note about the contact with an extraplanar creature: it must be peaceful. All contact thus far has been unequivocally hostile. This could change.
- Hit die is d4. Pathfinder changed the HD for all low-BAB classes to d6. You're welcome.
- On closer inspection, Druid might not work well as an entry into Alienist. Druids cast Summon Nature's Ally, which only summons regular animals, but the Summon Alien class feature (which is extremely important) relies on the ability to summon celestial or fiendish magical beasts (which are only available through the wizard/sorcerer/cleric spell Summon Monster). Also note the Alien Blessing class feature, which permanently reduces Wisdom, your primary spellcasting attribute. You're also giving up Wild Shape progression, which you might be okay with anyway as a summoner. That said, the flavor is perfect for the campaign, so I'm willing to swap things out so it will work a little better for you. How about all Summon Nature's Ally-related abilities are replaced with the equivalent version of Summon Monster, and Alien Blessing reduces Charisma instead of Wisdom? That should resolve the most egregious issues.

All of this is on one condition: that you tell me how to pronounce your name.

sweetloaf - You're welcome to join too, of course. I'd like to keep our limit around 6.

As a reminder, right now we have a wizard, a ranger, and a rogue. A summoner druid will provide some melee support, but more would be good. They are not Pathfinder classes, but I wouldn't mind if someone wanted to be a crusader, warblade, or swordsage from the Tome of Battle: Book of Nine Swords. They're like spellcasters who use martial maneuvers instead of spells, making for more interesting combat. Crusader's tanky, warblade's powerful, and swordsage gets the more magical/agile disciplines (Desert Wind for fiery blades, Shadow Hand for rogue-like things, etc.). Just remove all mention of recharge mechanics and you'll be good to go. Anyone interested in these classes can contact me for more information.

Do not worry about not having a healer, and do not build your character as a healbot. Everyone is considered to have a Healing Belt (from Magic Item Compendium). You have three charges per day. Spend one charge as a standard action to heal yourself for 2d8 points of damage, two charges for 3d8, and all three for 4d8. This is reduced by 1d8 when used on someone else.

And again, everyone's level 3 right now.

Well. I literally live a minute from work now and have noticed you guys jump the days around occasionally. I see we have six people interested all together now I think so more power to them. If we happen to start a new campaign of Pathfinder or something else in the future I would like to give it another go.

1.I'm okay with the stat buy, no problem. Was just asking!
2. Wow, beyond perfect.
3. Yeah, I knew it would take a couple levels, I'm used to insanely drawn out campaigns. But whatever works, ill read the pathfinder stuff more thoroughly later.
4. That's why I figured I'd ask, I'm sure we can work this all out with some good ole fashioned RP.
5. Woot!
6.I was more than willing to take the wis drop but cha drol is much better and the change to summon natures ally into summon monster would be awesome, you da man
7. Pronounced like danger.

If you think you can make it, by all means, roll a character! Six is just an estimate, and I can accommodate more or less people based on interest.

Don't forget, I have about a month left that I can play. When school starts I doubt I will be able to make sessions. If we go to 7 for the time being it would work, or I could just turn over my spot.

This game is a blast and I just got 2 really cool monster claw daggers, but again, time is not on my side right now.

We said he is an awesome DM.

Well, I'm going to emphasize this again.

dainjre - You can talk to Red on how you want to work out a character and specifics. More or less, I'd suggest creating it and then let Red give it a once over for the final OK

Evilcat - I think it'd be a lot of fun if you joined us :) toss us a character idea and, like with dainjre, have Red approve it.

sweetloaf - Same with the other two, make a character and have it approved!

Zakis - Do you have consistent time off? I'd hate for you to join and then be all scattered for work again and always be the guy missing.

Mr.Boston

Do you guys want to aim for Sunday 8/4, say 4PM EST to resurrect this bad boy?! That should give everyone enough time to get their characters figured out and hopefully let Red adjust as he would need to. If possible, have the characters ready to go sooner rather than later to let Red do what he needs to. In this land, his word is law. (Please don't make him angry!)
