Here's a look at the computer parts that have come so far.

You can see the build discussion here: http://alttabme.com/forum/index.php?threads/kels-new-rig-proposal.4361/

Front of the case. A couple USB 3 ports. The other ones probably do something too.

Inside the case. It's got adapters so I should be able to fit the smaller SSD in as well. Am I missing something, or is it supposed to have little posts sticking up to attach the mobo?

Back of the case. It's got two fans on top. One pointing up and another out the back. It's also got a vent for the PSU fan to go out the bottom. So I should be set.

The CPU. Intel i7-4770K 3.5 Ghz quad core processor. They tell me it will have no problems adding and multiplying.

The hard drives. The 500gig is from my last PC and has all my junk on it. The SSD is brand new. You can also see the thermal paste there. Apparently, it matters.

The CPU cooling fan. It's a Silverstone AR01. I don't much about them, but it had good reviews. I still can't believe how big the heat sink is. It may have been originally intended for a motorcycle.

The PSU. A Rosewill 650w. They say it's green, but when I took it out of the box, it was black. Lame.

The motherboard. Asus Z87 A. I'm not taking it out of the box until I'm ready to build, so this is all you get to see.

The memory. 16 GB of G Skill Ripjaws. I like it cuz it's blue. It also says it works with my mobo right on the cover, which is encouraging.

I'm expecting the GPU very soon. It's already about 4 days late. /cry

You mean the fan? A lot of stuff I was reading recommended getting an after market one. I'm putting enough into this that I'd rather be safe than sorry.

If you want to overclock then you might want to consider buying a good one. So far I´ve never had problems with the ones that come with the CPU.

I ordered an aftermarket fan for my cpu as well just because all the reviews I read and saw on tested.com on the one I got was super quiet.

You did it all by yourself! Congratz!
Thanks! I was *this* close to getting on Skype a couple times to ask a question, but I really wanted to do it by myself if I could. I did have to take stuff out and put it back in. Like when my massive video card wouldn't fit because the hard disk stuck out too far.

I think it took about 3 hours to build, then I spent another 2 hours installing Windows and drivers.

When I get home, I'll have to finish installing core programs, antivirus, and updating drivers. Then I will move on to a few games.

I love how clean my program list is. Computers from stores have tons of crap on them, and I always hate having to go uninstall and fixing stupid defaults.

I also was able to download an app for my iPad that lets me monitor temperature, fan speed, and CPU usage. It also has a Remote Desktop, so I can control it via wifi. I can even shut it down entirely.

I was going to try to finish the windows update remotely, but it looks like my wife turned it off completely.

Not sure what my feeling about this is. Remote Desktop to smartphone does not sound very safe.
Other than that go to http://ninite.com/ . If you don´t want to download it directly from the side, you at least get an idea what programs you could need/use.

Yeah, it logs in immediately with my iPad without any passwords if you have auto-login set up. However, you do have to get past my iPad security to get that far. Also, it couldn't connect or do anything when the computer was off at home, so it's not like anyone can get on while I'm asleep or away unless I leave the computer logged on. I'll mostly be able to spy on my wife while I'm gone and creep her out by making the mouse move. I'm going to see if I can get it to ask a password (different than my system password). If not, I may get rid of it.

Thanks for reposting ninite. I do plan to use it.

ummm... I'm kinda unsure about the airflow after looking at those pictures dude... did you make sure all the fans are making "sense"? as in:
the front fan is an intake and the one in the back and the ones on top are outtakes... the one that keeps me looking at it is the CPU fan.. it looks backwards to me... just sayin'
(+add cable management to improve airflow if that matters to you at all)
all that said, CONGRATULATIONS!!! she looks beautiful!!!

The front, bottom fan was preinstalled in the case. I'm pretty sure it is pulling air in. Ditto on the 2 fans in back, they are pushing air out. The CPU fan is pushing air directly into the back vent fan.

I was actually thinking I should move that to the side of the heat sink so that it pulled air from the front of the case and pushed it through the heatsink. The air would then be grabbed by the back fan and pushed out.

The PSU also has a fan going out the vent in the bottom. So that's 5 fans altogether! It's really not loud at all though.

I do this every time I get a new computer. Wipe the drive and fresh install of windows. Sometimes I do it when the comp gets too bloated from stuff I have installed and never use.
