I am Gyoin (Guy-Oh-Win). I've been around on the site since the GW2 days. Funny thing is, I had zero interest in GW2 when Tristan told me about the site, but was more excited about having a place to hang out with old gamer buddies. Then, as I do with all things, devoted more time and energy into this than anything else. And never really stopped!

Basic info - Born and raised in NH, had an older sister, father worked a lot, mother worked at my school around 5th grade, and I've been working since 14. I've been shaving since 9. I've played basketball, baseball, football, wrestled, ran cross country... And also did drama club, choir, band, gaming club, and was captain/president of the chess club at one time. So yeah, I had a bit of a hodgepodge set of activities growing up.

As most of you know, I have been with Caroline for a long time and we recently got married! I will also be ignoring any questions that will upset her, because y'know, happy wife happy life and all that jazz.

So let the questions begin!

Speaking of superpowers, what is a very lame one and how would you make it viable?

I hope to god one day I get to try. So for now we will say not probable, but not impossible.

We can all agree that Aquaman sucks, right? Well, I would use my ability to talk to fish in order to create an army of fish that would plunder the seas for me, taking down large cargo ships and building a militia of aquatic creatures. I would also liquidate any and all goods in order to become a wealthy investor. Once I become wealthy enough, I can then become Batman and be a real super hero. I already have the Bruce part down. With the sea dominated by fish and the land / air dominated by wealth, all I have left is space right? I'd just throw more money at that then. Maybe there is space fish.

And that is how Aquaman can dominate the universe.

Smaller than I expected! And incredibly gay. I mean, you wore white chinos? Is that what they are called? Capri's for men or something right? Caroline and I spotted you in the parking lot and immediately identified you from a distance, that's how much gay vibe we got <3

I was actually nervous about meeting you for the first time though, because I definitely cross a lot of boundaries in person. But you took everything in stride and you had gained a tremendous amount of respect from me. I mean, if someone doesn't laugh at my first few jokes, I start to get incredibly self conscious and nervous, and start to act even more awkward and then downward spirals. So.. Thanks for being awesome :)
 
If you could instantly learn one language what would it be?

What made you talk to your wife the first time? (hopefully a swoon question)

Japanese in a heartbeat. I constantly debate starting to learn it and just never commit the time to it.

Well, when we were in college, we were in the same accounting class. She sat in front of me and to the right. She used to wear this brown sweater that we still joke about to this day (and she still wears to thanksgiving). After class, we were the only two who walked back from class back to the dorms instead of driving (the class was in the farthest building). She was cute, I was single, so I started making small talk on those walks. For a long time she kinda ignored me haha. I was just an awkward guy trying to make conversation. Eventually I gave her my number, and something like a couple months later, she called me to hang out XD

So that's how that magical story started

We are in the process of buying a good frame for it :) Right now is in a safe spot next to my MegaMan Family Portrait with my PS3/4 setup. We have a place picked out for it and once we do hang it up, I'll definitely post pictures!

I also got the Katamari picture! Fucking love it. And even better Caroline knew what it was at first glance too! She even said "Awwm that'll be a cute poster to put near the crib when we have kids!" So.... There's that. XD

Heavily debated between the two of us. We keep going back and forth between two and zero. Caroline was an only child and she often felt lonely, she wouldn't to have only one child. I wouldn't mind one child for financial reasons, but I also grew up with a sibling (3.5 years apart, older sister, and we never really got along. Even now I don't have much in common with her and have issues communicating).

But if we do have kids, we're hopeful to have two. One of each. I'd prefer the boy first, mostly because I know how boys work and it would help in raising the daughter and be able to be my eyes and ears in the school days. Caroline is on board with one of each, but not sure which she'd prefer first.

If we don't have kids, HELLLLOOOO EARLY RETIREMENT!

Damn, was going to ask how you pronounced your name because I always keep going back to Groin (substitute the r with a y) in my head.

For how much money would it take for you to shave your beard and your head?

I at one time contemplated doing a "GoFundMe" or soemthing similar back in the days of savetoby.com. Save Toby was a earlier 2000 website that threatened to eat a bunny if he didn't raise enough money to save it (something like $50k or something crazy). He actually made a fuckton of money to not eat a cute rabbit.

I wanted to post something similar of "Donate X amount of dollars and I will shave my body". I've always pictured that beautiful 6 digit number as a goal. I knew I would never make more than $50, so I never bothered making it a reality.

To actually shave my head/beard? $20,000 through crowd funding sounds about right. I've never shaved my head before.

Not in the least. I spent most of the day trying to think of a good title to incorporate the Beard itself, but kept coming up with really long and uninteresting lines... Like "Gyoin's AMA, but all you care about is the Beard" or "The Beard is really the one running this show" to give emphasis on the Beard over me. End of the day, the simpler title worked better.
