Potential White Water Rafting in Maine?

What are the dates?

9/19 is the actual rafting date and the meetup is generally at 8AM, so I'd suggest staying the night before. I'm bringing Mike along and we're both snorers, but if others would want to bunk for a couple nights we'd be fine with it.

Hell, if you're coming from NY, you could come up half way and we can carpool from that friday to save some drive times if interested.

Hmm not a bad idea I am sure Zakis would be interested if he can get off.

I don't mind driving though I like to have my car. Makes me feel better if something goes off at home and I need to run.

Question... how many do you need to do this successfully and how athletic does the group have to be to pull off not getting sucked into the river? I have always wanted to white water raft.

oh, even if no one else besides me and mike does it, we're still going just the two of us. They take smaller groups and combine them to a raft. Rafts hold 8 I think, so even if we don't have a FULL group, we'd still be together. Beyond 8 we'd be split though.

And the water does most of the work. It's more about hanging on and helping paddle to keep us straight. You'll be pooped, but I wouldn't worry about the "strength" factor.

And Caroline will probably be MIA for this one. If you want to bring someone who isn't going rafting, it'll be quite boring IMO.

I'll iron out hotel details as well today to give a better idea of driving times and costs.

Thanks that is important too.

So looks to be ranges of 25 to 45 bucks a night per person, depending on if we do a small cabins or big cabins. It's also all "bring your own linens" and bunk beds.

The 25 a night are literally small one room cabins with some bunk beds. The 45 a night is a full sized cabin. There is a restaurant / pub / gameroom / fire pits and picnic tables abound so it shouldn't be too difficult to do this cheaply we we wanted, or we can do a little extra splurge for a bit of comfort.

I did a rough cost mock-up.

If we were to have 6 people and go small bunk, it would only be 1,000 for the entire group for two night stays and rafting. $170 a person ish. If we were to go big cabin, expect $210 ish a person.

And this is without group discounts btw.

Also note, I believe they feed us lunch and dinner on the rafting expedition.

It's about 3 and a half hours from my place, so that'd be a decently long drive for you guys from NY.

PACKAGE DEAL - Looks more daunting because of all the increased food costs. We could just hit a store on the way and bring foods and cook on the fire pits I would think, or we can go this route.

Depending on the class of the river and the conditions, it can be a helluva good workout. I went 3 or 4 times on a two week trip through the northwest years ago. I will have to work up some comp time and see if I can take that weekend off. Actually I have vacation i could potentially move around. Ill check on that when I go back to work.

For someone who is flying, what would be the best airport? Everything I saw was like 70-120 miles away...

At that point I might as well fly to one of the driving groups.

I know there were a few maybes and those trying to figure out plans, but I want to try to book as soon as possible as spots are filling up! I personally don't care if we go small bunk or large bunk, but I would like to try to register this weekend. If I can get some confirms/denies that would be amazing for a headcount!
