ALTTABME Minecraft

I spent a few hours in the Nether last night. It was amazingly nerve-wracking and even horror game-esque. I had been there before in past versions, but this time I was looking for a nether fortress. Wither skeletons scare the crap out of me and the ghasts and blazes wouldn't leave me alone. I was on the hunt for netherwart, but I was about to give up since I was out of arrows, torches and almost food. It was at this time that I came across a room with eight plants. Amazing luck, but THEN I had to get back to my portal and back to my home. It was a pretty awesome adventure!
 
Alright, so I'm pretty comfortable with the game, been playing by myself and with my kids (which is a blast with their imaginations) now how am I able to play with you guys?

Oh, ok! my login name is LiloDay - how orignal, I know, lol Anyway, I just checked out a server today, Desired Craft... my God that place is amazing! I'm clueless what to do there so I was just walkin and lookin, but it's pretty sweet in there.
 
Sorry, been kinda out of as far as the computer goes lately...

It says that the server is out of date do I need to do something for that?
 
That means that whoever's running it needs to download the new version before you can play. Your client is no longer compatible.

Well, it could be a couple things. Are you useing the Technic Launcher, and selecting Tekkit before you launch the game? If so, try to go into the launcher options (Before you log in) and clear cache.
 
I just downloaded minecraft from their site and am using that, not sure what anything else is, I'm still a noob, lol
 
AH! Ok.

You've been playing whats called "Vanilla" minecraft. Minecraft has many mods and packages. The server we play on has a set of mods called Tekkit, installed. It basicly adds a lot of items and tools. Cool stuff. But If you go to:

You can read all about it. The download link on the right:

Has the Launcher, you cause that launcher to play vanilla or tekkit(the version on our server) as well as many others.
 
lilo, tekkit pack is a bunch of seperate mods that people built to make minecraft do different things. For instance, with one of the mods you can make a machine that grows and cuts down trees for you. You can also make tools like a mining laser that drills through blocks with lasers and mines faster and further. You can also make armor that lets you fly and tons of other stuff.

to download the Technic launcher on the right. Just the launcher not the server. Install it and run it before you launch minecraft and you should be able to connect to the arx server.

Downloaded and it works, but it's says:

MAtmos: A r21 update is available (You're 9 versions late).
MAtmos: This message will display 1 more time.

Do I need to do something else?


Oh yeah, and do you guys use a certain texture pack or can I use the one I like?
 
You can choose whatever texture pack you would like. Also, have you tried to change what version you're using to log into the multiplayer server?
 
I have everything ready to go, just not whitelisted it's telling me.

I'm gonna have to learn a whole host of new things, never knew you could have so much more to this game, it's really great with more things, but a little daunting so I'll probably hang solo mostly for a bit longer til I can actually do something useful =)

Sorry for the delay, I've been away for the holiday, and I unplugged and relaxed for a bit. I've whitelisted people that asked, let me know if I missed anyone.

Server info here. Only real "rules" are please don't break anyone's creations or add on to them without asking first. Ice Spring Station is a small outpost near the initial spawn point if you need a place to spend the first night or grab some basic supplies. Enjoy!
