ALTTABME Minecraft

I don't see a way to install the minimap mod into the vanilla server, but apparently you can do it client side with Rei's Minimap?

How about Vanilla with a little flair. And by flair I mean dinosaurs. :D

When it comes to tekkit and the included mods, I just feel blah. I mean we had a giant diamond made of diamond blocks within like 3 days. I lose all motivation to play right there. When I play minecraft with my boyfriend or myself, I play survival on hard. I get creepered to the face, and endermen wreck me if I'm not careful (before diamond armor.. which takes time without haxx0r mods). If I want to build something out of mossy cobblestone or glowstone, I have to find that shit, not conjure it up out of dirt. If I want to mine some iron, I have to actually mine the iron- not leave a chunk loader and machine to do it for me. And dammit I'm sick of seeing volcanoes EVERYWHERE. /rant

Also..

An dino-egg was hatched.

I do like the challenge as well, I just wish there was a half-way sort of thing for creating certain materials once you gathered them initially. It makes huge projects easier. Although cobblestone generators are fairly easy to make.

Haha. Yeah, agreed. I think that's also why I lose interest fast.. too many things that make it too easy. Sure the invention stuff is nice, but I just like the charm and simplicity of vanilla. I think I'm going to save the current map/profile for the server where it's at, and then swap it over to a fresh vanilla world this evening, survival/normal, with only the Archaeology mod for grins.

Let me know when you do, ill jump on and be the first to break ground! Also do i need to install this Arch mod?

Yeah, it looks like it does, and it sounds kind of like a pain. I'm going to try it real quickly now before I commit the server to running it, to get a gauge of how hard it will be to install. Will keep you posted.

Edit: it looks like a new release is incoming very soon for Archaeology, so I'm going to hold off on switching over the server for a few days to see if they can get things updated. Also, it looks like it requires Forge to install it?

I'm telling you get into thaumcraft2. It's about 1/3 as powerful as mods like industrialcraft and ee and the like. It takes time to get going just like in vanilla and there is consequences for creating things. its not just here have another creative mode.

you don't even get the recipes right off the bat. You have to research and learn them.

and the updated features from 3.0.2

As long as its installation doesn't require a Ph.D it does look cool.

I like building gadgets and labs and such; that's what I like about tekkit. I can do that in vanilla and everything else though, so whatever you guys go with I'll build with.

I use Multi-MC and it was as simple as putting it into the mod folder and choosing it from the list when I make an instance (a version of the game to run with a particular mod or mods). Multi-MC is pretty easy to use as well. I don't know how hard Thaum would be to install server-side.

Edit: Is direwolf20 Zach Braff? lol

I think Nahku might have gotten eaten by zombies again. Work Zombies!
No. :) I said:

I really wanna try archaeology, but I want the update for the latest version, so I don't have to worry about downgrading MC or any other shenanigans.

Thaumcraft looks cool, but alas, it does not look like a supported mod for the host service. I will ask them if they can add it (they've added stuff for me before). I use a service, not a physical machine in my house, to run the MC server for the simple reason of automatic maintenance and good uptime. Unfortunately that means I'm limited in what I can run on it. :alien6:

OK, I stand corrected. Talked with the server guys and apparently I can install mostly anything I damn well want to, i just have to do it all manually via local setup then FTP (joy!). So.... Plan:

- Back up all current world maps so I can upload them in case anyone wants a backup to play on their own. (Edit: DONE. You can get backup here: http://piraterepublic.com/minecraft/backups/alttabme-mc-backup.zip )
- Try to install a new mod manually without blowing up my server.
- I'll let you know how it goes....

Edit: well, it would seem that Thaumcraft won't run on MC 1.5.1 and that's the only version of vanilla I can install, so.... hrm. Going to require more investigation.

Ah good luck! Totally missed the part about waiting for Arch.[DOUBLEPOST=1366149163,1366148887][/DOUBLEPOST]Thaumcraft 3 is only updated to minecraft 1.4.7 btw.

^Scratch that, according to the mod makers TC3 still works fine with 1.5.1

Hmmm.. I can't seem to find any server install instructions anywhere... Driving me crazy.

I cant get Thaumcraft 3 to work with 1.5.1 or the latest versiion of forge loader so idk wtf is going on. I got forgeloader working ok, but you add TC3.0.3 and i get black screen so we might have to wait until they update the mod idk.

Well I lied. It would seem Thaumcraft currently hasn't been updated to work with 1.5.1 and the creator is working on 3.1 which has significant changes to the mod, so I am not sure if it will be anytime soon. I vote for a fresh restart with vanilla. Corvus and I have a requirement though. When you spawn in you have to build at least one structure before you strike out into the world to make it on your own. That way we have a central city that people can always come back to work on and maybe even eventually connect with their future settlements. It will end up being a crazy random town based on what people decide to build but it will be fun.

That sounds cool
