GW2 At what level does Ranger gear look better?

I've been playing a Ranger since launch and I'm now somewhere around level 70. I've been upgrading my armor via dungeons, storyline quests and the trading post (mostly the trading post) about every 10 levels, but some of my gear has used the same model for most of the game. The hat with feather combo has been the only model I've seen on a medium armor helm (that isn't a mask) under level 80. I've been using various different longbows that have all used the same model since the start of the game.

I feel like I've been really unlucky and like I'm missing out on watching my character grow. Any thoughts?

Have you been crafting? Each tier of Leatherworking produces armor of a different appearance. I'm fond of the "Leather Armor" available at discipline level 150.

All of the armor you can get from dungeons before level 80 has the same appearance. Stick it out to the level cap, and then your options will really open up - dungeon armor, order armor, cultural armor, Orrian karma armor, and so forth.

If you want to see all the choices, enter your race, sex, and profession at GW2Armor.com, and it will show you just about everything. You can also stop by the PvP Locker in Heart of the Mists or find item codes on Guildhead if you want to preview what they look like on your character.

Gw2armor.com is amazing, thanks for the link. I got my leatherworking to 137 a while ago, I'll have another go at leveling it.

edit: Wouldn't I also be able to purchase crafted leatherworking gear on the trading post? I haven't seen any other models for helms at all on it.

yes you can buy all the crafted stuff on the TP. I too hated all the leveling gear. Once I hit 80 the choices got way better. Personally I run with the whispers medium armor set on my sylvari ranger and love it.

I run with the featherhat and a big trenchcoat. I have since like... Level 30 when I did AC the first time and got the hat reward for completing the story....

Yeah, I'm not a good basis for cool armor. I've been using the same coat (or similar coats) since launch.

It's sad, but I didn't like any medium armor til I got to L80 and acquired my AC explorable set - the same hat I had in beta...

(Damn I look cool :p)

Can't you make most anything look like anything else via transmogriphication? Or whatever it's called in GW2? I was thinking that I'd be able to get some crappy stat pirate looking attire and make my good stat gear look like it.

Yeah, Transmutation stones. Still has to be leather gear tho.

Yeah, I've gotten a handful of them from quest and exploration rewards. I plan on putting my own outfit together from random stuff I find rather than using a tier or dungeon template.

In other news, my longbow has changed form a few times. Right now, I have a rare one that looks like it has white wings on the top and bottom. Looks pretty sweet.

Right now my Longbow is Eir's Longbow, mainly due to the stats. Very plain looking, but I like it that way. I'm partially hoping for a fractal skin at some point, or maybe waaaay in the future actually start working towards Kudzu.

But yeah, a lot of people are a bit miffed on leather gear looking very plain. I like it that way personally.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. The leather armor is by far the best looking. But I'm playing a human thief. Everything looks better on humans.

Charr. Automatically the ugliest clothing set. DM did a decent job at making it work though....

Actually, Strange did help me with my PvP color scheme. I should really transfer over the color schemes to my pvp set. Make it pop. I have hundreds of dyes, I should take advantage of them.

I've been going with a red and purple color scheme, experimenting with green or yellow/gold highlights. Leather/earthy colors on the boots and gloves. I've had random people I met comment that they didn't realize they could get such good looking color schemes with mostly basic dyes. I've been keeping all the dyes I find instead of selling them because I like the customization.

I want Blood for one of my characters. Gotta have a Mord-Sith female :)

Then maybe a dark blue with a spot of white here and there.

It really depends on your race, for instance, NO armor looks good on a char IMO. However there are some really cool armors for Norn and Humans. Tier 2 Human cultural armor is very cool along with Tier 3 as well.
