So, i just finished reading the central books of "dune"

Slow start but a nice juicy payoff. Oh god that character development *drool*

Generally im reading due to heatsink trouble, but I love to read anyway. You guys experienced any nice books recently :s

Reading books is a hobby I've always wanted to do, but something that I have a hard time doing because I can't multitask while reading. I can watch a tv show or movie while playing a video game, but you can't do that with a book. I always feel like I'm not maximizing my enjoyment possibilities with a book... But every now and again I have to set aside some time for a book the really piqued my interests. Such as the Hunger Games trilogy. I don't care if it was made for teens, I loved Battle Royale and I had to read a westernized version of it. Enjoyed all the books quite well.

Sadly that was a year ago and haven't quite cracked open a book since, except for a beer craft book Caroline got me for Christmas

Plus reading always puts me to sleep.

I love the Dune books myself.

I actually just picked up the big omnibus (all 10 books in one) for the Chronicles of Amber. A guy at work keeps talking about how good it is.

I'm the same way with books and multitasking Gyoin. The difference is I love to read. What I do is always have a book or 2 for when I go to bed. Sometimes I read for 10 minutes and sometimes I read for 3 hours. Some of the harry potter books I read in one sitting. The fifth book I bought at midnight release and after opening the book I realized it was morning of the next day and I had read the whole thing. I also have kindle on my phone and download books to it. That way if I have down time or something I can pop it out and read.

I am into sci-fi and fantasy books. Some of my favorite authors:
L.E. Modesitt Jr. All his stuff is good, Especially the recluse saga stuff. He does great at making stand alone books set in a continuous world.
Terry Goodkind Well written fantasy
Terry Pratchett The discworld noves are amazing and funny. Satirical humor set in a fantasy magical world.
Robert Jordan If you like terry goodkind, you will like jordan and vice versa.
Ian M. Banks Some of the best written science fiction I have ever read. Most books are stand alone.

I love to read too, as well as hanging out at libraries or used bookstores. Not much of a fan of B&K, too preppy of an atmosphere for my taste. Haven't had much time for reading lately, but I did enjoy The Sharing Knife series by Lois McMaster Bujold, and The Snow Queen (The Summer Queen) by Joan D. Vinge.
Other authors I enjoy include Greg Rucka, Neil Gaiman, Christopher Moore, and Dr. Seuss.

Dune is a great series. I also watched the movies but just like any book turned movie there is a lot of information loss.

Try Wizard First Rule by Terry Goodkind. AMAZING book series. Still need to get to the next book but the stores don't seem to have it everytime i get in there.(Do NOT watch the tv series if you want a play-by-play of the book) The tv series drifts so far off course from the main storyline its not even funny. But i guess a good show with its own plot (B-class show)

I've read half of Ender's Game and half of Ender's Shadow. I always have to re-buy them when going through airport terminals, read a little while waiting for the flight, read a little on the flight, then finally get sleepy and take a nap. Lose the book while on vacation, rinse/repeat. Ditto for the Dresden Files books, I think I've read 1.5 of the 3 I have.

Dale Brown's works are a different story. I can't help but read half the entire book before so much as putting it down for a meal. It helps that I am intimately familiar with the subjects, so I don't have to re-read passages 10 times to make sure I extracted all the meaning from them.

I'd say I usually read about 2 novels a year on average, while traveling.

Ender's Game, Ender's Shadow and Shadow of the Hegemon are all good. I've read them at least 3 times each over about 10 years.

I used to be a huge Michael Crichton fan. I first read Jurassic Park when I was 13, and it was my favorite book for years.

My boyfriend's favorite author is Brandon Sanderson; he loves the Mistborn Trilogy. He finally got me to read all three. He had hyped them up so much that when I first started reading, I wasn't overly impressed, but as I continued, I became very interested in the world and characters. I felt like I had to hide my enthusiasm to read each book to not prove him right. XD

I haven't read the enders game stuff, but I should. Right now I am in the middle of the last book of the Robert Jordan Wheel of Time books. Robert Jordan died a few years ago, but he left notes and outlines on how the series last books should go and his wife/editor brought in a new writer who had the same "voice" as RJ. The whole series is awesome and you really can't tell its someone else writing it.

Robert Jordan died a few years ago, but he left notes and outlines on how the series last books should go and his wife/editor brought in a new writer who had the same "voice" as RJ. The whole series is awesome and you really can't tell its someone else writing it.

My wife is addicted to the Wheel of Time books. And somehow, I've never read them. We own all of them...

They are written very well in my opinion. Its one of those series that I have trouble putting down cause the characters are so engaging. The other great thing is over the course of the series the characters really grow and change.[DOUBLEPOST=1367499152,1367499041][/DOUBLEPOST]also since the last book came out, its a great time to read em all.

That new writer was Brandon Sanderson, one of the authors I mentioned. Maybe you should read Mistborn!

I personally didn't like the Mistborn series, or Elantris one of his standalones that had I read.

than I read The Way of Kings, the first book in his "Stormlight Archive" it was absolutely awesome and upon finishing it I actually had a new respect for his other books as it are all apart of the same universe, its just not stated up front, you have to dig for it.. which is awesome. The connection between them only became apparent to me after finishing The Way of Kings.. forcing me to go back and read his other books - Warbreaker & The Emperors Soul. He is setting up a pretty awesome underlying story across his books.

As of right now I'm attempting to read The Malazan Book of the Fallen by Steve Erikson, probably some of the most complex books I've read, you skip over one paragraph and find yourself immediately lost, you have to thoroughly read each poetry sample etc etc in order to actually grasp the story. Its awesome. 100% recommend if you want a long fantasy series to read over summer!

I have to recommend The Chronicles of Amber by Roger Zelazny. The way I was introduced to this series was "EVERYONE is a bad guy".
For sci-fi, hands down Neuromancer by William Gibson. I end up buying around 3 or 4 copies a year so I can give them away to friends as presents. :B
Right now I just finished the second book of the Gentlemen Bastards series (The third comes out in Oct and I CAN'T WAIT ;_. Awesome characters, interesting story and twists, and it's about thieves<3
