GW2 Dev's sPvP Mesmer build

This is the build i use for sPvP.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgAQNA...yd+AzhqA2VSBudhA;TsAAzCpoay0koJbTumkNtqYUxeBA

Build Pros:
1. there is no counter class/specc(atleast that i have found yet) in a 1v1 situation. You should purty much lay waste to anyone dumb enough to try and engage you 1v1. You will most likely not kill a good Support specc, but they cant kill you either.
2. Most 2v1 situations, that dont include condition speccs, are win-able!
3. In group situations, you have fantastic amount of buffs; and they apply very quickly!
4. majority of damage for this spec is condition based, that being said, majority of your damage does not scale with toughness; as toughness does not affect condition damage.
Conclusion=very well rounded!
Build Cons:
1.Condition builds(ex.cond thief, cond necro) can be a challenge. You are very much capable of beating them, but not having a cond cleaner means you dont have the "mistake buffer" of being a mesmer as you do with DD specs.
2. Being that this spec does not have a "punt", you dont make the best bunker player.
Conclusion=Enemy conditions are not your friend!

Spec conclusion:

Mesmer in any spec cannot contend with the burst of other classes. They are intended to confuse the enemey, aswell as literally put Confusion on them(pun intended), and create chaos on the battlefield. This spec emphasizes the class' strengths.
You will confuse the Bajeezus out of your enemy and stack conditions on them while you watch them chase your illusions around; all while keeping boons rolling on your allies!
After alot of theorycrafting and testing, this spec has been designed to maximize your pros and minimize your cons!
If you want to create chaos, then do it!!!
I will be posting some walkthroughs on different strats for different situations, aswell as just random footage with some fun music, on my youtube channel. Come check it out!

Thanks for posting. I've been playing my mesmer more recently and it seems like a fun class to sPvP. What is your reasoning around using Blink and Portal? I'm assuming mobility, but are there other options that might be more synergistic with the build like Phantasmal Disenchanter or Arcane Thievery?

(I'm only low level with my Mesmer, so I'm having a tough time choosing my initial utilities and am curious what are good ones to unlock first for use in WvW scenarios, which I understand is a separate world altogether, but I thought I'd ask :))

I'll play you 1v1 and deny you're "You should purty much lay waste to anyone dumb enough to try and engage you 1v1" statement.

that is the exact reason i use it, mobility! :)

the synergy is actually realy nice though. It is two very different mobilities.

i usually drop my portal in an LoS position as im engaging a fight, then it is there realy just as a safety net if needed.
Also, if some1 is tunneling me then ill tag my portal and just bounce back and forth making them chase me from one to the other; usually resulting in a rage and they forget to rotate CDs and stuff resulting in a kill for me :)

Another great use for Portal entre is when they have 3r4 people on a base, i will drop a portal on base then engage them and try to drag the combat out away from base. Then i portal back, leaving them saying "wtf, where he go" while im capping the base.

Blink on the other hand, i usually use in conjuction with clone.. ill drop my clone then blink behind my target.. If they have you marked then Cloning wipes the mark so you are no longer tagged and since you are blinking behind them they have to adjust their camera to see you again.. This process usually creates some confusion and they end up attacking my illusions.

I try to have as much movement capability as possible without actually having to move.. You want your movement to imitate Illusion movement so they cant target you as easily.

As for the PVE and WvW stuff, i would suggest checking out Tr1age thread if you havnt already, as i am actually low level on this character. I mostly just to sPvP with him at the moment.

I dont, i just try to kill them before they kill me.

Usually i can confuse them enough so that they misplace alot of conditions onto illusions.

Other than that though, i have nothing in this specc.. Thief and Necro are the only two classes that ever become an issue with it thus far; but it still usually is not a problem, i have alot of healz and i can LoS drop DoTs. Positioning is probably the most important thing i would say in any fight as a mesmer. Against condition builds you just dont have as much room for error.

Lol, I taught Devve everything he knows. Hahahaha just kidding brother. My play style is a little different from Devve's I am going to post a new video on my YouTube channel here eventually. Probably tonight so stay tuned and actually watch some of my footage where Devve and I go 1v1!

Roasty as for your condition damage answer there are a number of ways to protect yourself from condition damage. At least as a Mesmer the first is to use a canceling skill such as null field, the second is to negate the effects through boons by standing in chaos storm, the third little more cowardly way is to stop attacking and run away until the condition runs off. This is especially critical if you have confusion stacked on you.

My brotha of anotha motha!!!

you needa get on and lets do some Tournys!
