I have never played D&D but have heard so many things about it. Too bad I don't know anyone in my area who does that sort of thing. But, I am really interested in playing it if there is anyone who can set up some online stuff.

My cousin and friend are huge DnD players. I'm not sure which rules(Is it rules or settings? Not even sure) they play with. I attempted it a few years back but never got past character sheet due to having school. Never attempted it again.

Rules are determined by edition, like 3.5 edition or 4th edition. Setting refers to a world, like Greyhawk, Ravenloft, or Dark Sun - a theme and collection of lore for a given campaign.
