yup that worked thanks[DOUBLEPOST=1377337029,1377336976][/DOUBLEPOST]dear god...world is currently full lol players in queue is 142

or Alfkid?[DOUBLEPOST=1377337460,1377337314][/DOUBLEPOST]yup, turns out that Gilgamesh is the "official" Reddit server... so... somewhat the "go to" server for US players some say.. so even if it's so crowded now it means that we wont have population issues later on when the "buy the box and only play 1 month" players move on.

Ok settled on naming my lalafel "Neff Soulcaller", and even though it isn't a conventional lalafel name I came up with a backstory of how he was raised by highlanders and got the name hehe.

actually I don't remember what the producer was called during the letters and playthroughs they did.. but it was something like... "Carmine Flame"... I liked it.

I'm going to wait for official release. It really irks me that even the early release gameplay is under NDA and can't be streamed. What are they afraid of?

ok... Got in, np after the maintenance period... but RL punched me in the face... gotta log right away... Here is a screenie of me in my Inn room in Gridania... don't I look FABULOUS??

crash and burn? lol that was fast! damn SE understimating their own game.

No, they probably had it right. What they didn't anticipate was Wildstar pushing back release and then loads of people looking to FF XIV as their MMO fix for the next 6-9 months =)

Also, I heard that you only ever need to make 1 character in this game correct? Can learn all classes, jobs, abilities?

Edit to add... so I'm finally downloading, which server again? I thought I'd seen a couple just want to be 100% sure I'm rolling with you guys. looking forward to it =)

Gilgamesh is the server we're all on. There is maintenance going on for the next 2 hours.

ok awesome, I have about an hour left on the download if I don't disconnect any more without notice.... I've already wasted about 2 hours of time sitting here not knowing the download had stopped lol

In short, because they don't want the FF-neutral, hardcore MMO player to know that the gameplay is awful.

I was an ambivalent-neutral person before trying the game. After reading a few of the complaints here and comparing it to what I'd seen, with regards to combat, I thought they were justified. However, I thought it was something I could tolerate. It didn't appear to be any different than a hybrid of a typical JRPG with the likes of EverQuest or World of Warcraft. Have an even worse fluidity than I suspected, that's not even the reason why I'm writing.

It's Square Enix and their approach to the game - it's their definition of MMO.

The mess that was getting the game registered and the horrible navigation on their website should have been enough of a warning. Ignoring server drops and access issues, the gameplay is cumbersome. The quests initially force you to sit through and click on bubbles, over and over again until you get the quest which had already been accepted in the first place. Then there's the ridiculous sale system. You know how easy it is to sell stuff in World of Warcraft? Yeah, Square Enix apparently thinks its kosher to keep the EQ-esque sell model where you have to deliberately right click to sell and then use a reverse-intuitive slider to decide and confirm the sale. I think there's a video comparing the sale system of 1.0 and World of Warcraft (1.0 being what they had to take down). There is an obvious improvement from ARR and 1.0, but it's still way too menu oriented.

Did I mention the grinding? Oh, yes. Grinding in a WoW or EQ-esque MMO should be tolerable, understandably not quite as fun as an ARPG like D2 or PoE, but there's little to nothing to look forward to grinding. You can't level reasonably when grinding, like you could in EverQuest or if necessary WoW. It would take a thousand mobs a level lower than yourself just to ding in FFXIV. This grinding model is almost as bad as GW2.

The reason I mention grinding at all, when there are so many quests to do (and you should do them) and FATE events is because the duty system is necessary to proceed at level 9 or so but what happens when it's down? Think you can grind that xp? Not a chance. Additionally, that's what an MMO is built upon: the grind. Kill X, Collect Y...if that isn't fun for you in the game, don't play it because that's 90% of the experience or more that you'll have with it.

I'll add more later, but for now - if you're neutral or ambivalent towards the FF series, this is an MMO you're going to want to avoid. If you absolutely love FF and have played every single variation of the game, including FFXI (the first MMO) then you'll probably like it.

Im going to have to personally disagree to this post, I have played probably 3-4 FF games in my life (don't consider myself a fanboy, but they were good games) and so land in this more neutral plane of players you talk of. I haven't properly played a MMO in quite a while, and all the latest have been heavy action based as I search for the Nex Gen MMO. However as stated many times, FFXIV does not want to be 'Next Gen' and instead have created a game that lies along conventional lines while improving on certain aspects..
When it comes to quest, you can always button mash through those speech bubbles and I bet there is even a way for you to skip cut scences. However this is what games and ESPECIALLY RPG are, getting to know this new world around you, the people within, and the events that connect them. You put together information throughout your questing and searching (up to where I am) to create a vivid lore for this world, and this is one of the biggest reasons I play games is for the story. So sure you can skip through info on the quest, people, monsters and reasons why you have to complete the task, instead of just sending you blankly out to (as you said Kill X, Collect Y).
As for grinding, im not sure if you know but you can get exp bonuses with killing mobs in succession of each other. This basically means that if you can constantly kill monsters (under the time limit for each kill) then it will reward you with a exp bonus for every kill. This is perfect when wanting to grind, however it does need you to form a light party to allow for faster monster kills (+monster kills=+exp bonus).
Am I denying this game has some flaws? No not in the slightest, it has its roughness in some areas which if smoothed out would make this game even better then it is. Of cause this reply is all IMO, and I only have bout 6 hours experience but these were my personal initial thoughts.

This is reasonable. Although, that's still a good handful of final fantasy games. I've played two. Didn't hate them, but I've had better RPG experiences in other games. Having played so few without a strong discontentment, I thought myself neutral or ambivalent towards the series as a whole.

I also want to make clear that my opinion is just that - an opinion, based on less than five hours of the game played. I had intended to try fourty-eight hours, but I just couldn't force myself to play. I was aware of the timing xp bonus, but it really just isn't enough to make all of the pretty critters more than hitboxes and so, in my opinion, the grind suffers. Which, if there's one positive thing I can say is that graphically, it's a lovely game!

If anyone here likes the game already, that's great! I'm glad someone is enjoying something. I wanted to provide a quick opinion to the more FF neutral MMO forum goers, so they would have my highly subjective opinion ('to avoid' FFXIV) and reasons why the game was poor.

Cheers bro, its always good to have both opinions for people to get a full view of the game. I agree with you in some points, and these can effect different people in a less or more negative way (had a less negative effect on me). By the way my bad, I didn't mean to come across aggressive or trying to start an argument with that last post, I too just wanted to state my opinion. Seems I was a bit more dedicated then I previously thought haha. Anyways bro im sorry it didn't turn out like you had hoped.. Spring aint too far around the corner! -brucethumbsup-

you are all wrong!! this is the greatest MMORPG ever created and My opinion is final and allmighty.... so, there!
