What's new

GW2 Good God... amazing use of ballista.

There have been several times over the past 3 BWE's where I got torn to shreds by ballista, they're gonna be huge anti-infantry players at launch :)

Yep. It's gonna be a lot about siege. Which it should be. Adds a whole new layer of tactics on top of the already deep combat system. Focused arrow carts on a courtyard were SO brutal. At one point my group was beating on this door, and the keep walls were on either side of us. We just got spammed with arrow carts. We got split up and let a bunch of doods bleed out because nobody could make it across to them, lol.

I didn't really play around on or encounter many ballistas, I honestly didn't WvW much, but it looks like a nice chokepoint weapon. :D

Edit: Reading about it more, apparently they are super effective against big groups because they don't share the same 5 target limit like AOE damage, it actually penetrates through people and hits them separately one at a time. One probably wouldn't be so crazy, but set up three or four in a doorway and that's just... zergshredding.

Yeah, I WvW'd a fair amount in BWE3, and I definitely noticed an uptick in the amount of times that I got vaporized by a ballista. They're brutal. That video was great, defending keeps is by far one of my favorite things to do in GW2, and I love this idea of a "last stand."

I noticed a lot of people this last BWE using dead bodies as spotters for trebuchets. They would suicide run into the middle of a large group so they could get a good view of the base, then just call out what the person controlling the engineer had to do to hit the right target.

Honestly, it's really cool that people can do this, but I hope they fix this. It's not realistic, and is kind of an exploit in some ways. Spotters should have to be alive.

Lol zergshredding.

Do you know if it's possible to reflect ballistae? I think that would be pretty funny having people all set up and a bunch of guardians/mesmers just reflect all their shots back at them ^^

It'd suck for the defending team, but it'd be hilarious for the invading team. XD

This makes me so hyped up for WvW, can't wait to see what people do with the structures/buildings.

yes

I got to use a few ballistae this BWE and they were a blast. I dropped kits for two and someone positioned a third on the hillside while we tried an assault. They kept pushing back the infantry with their sieges and at one point three of them came out in golems (sorry not sure their actual name just yet). We kept tossing up the bleed (#2) and focused each one down before they could do any real damage.

It was nice having a bunch of loot bags waiting for you at the ballistae when you could break from the #1 ability spam.

This is a massive problem actually. I WvWvW'd a massive amount last BWE, and Yak's Bend used this tactic extensively and EVERYWHERE. They would just keep random dead people laying about in seemingly every area I ran past. I didn't really understand at first what was going on, just figured a lot of people raged when they died and went afk, but it became fairly clear the bodies were being used for scouting. And I'm not talking about siege areas, I'm just talking pathways, supply camps, etc....

So, until this is fixed with a fast timer, or something else, this is a legitimate and key tactic to be used in scouting the other teams' movements and intent.

This sounds like a lot of fun! Identify a passage way with heavy enemy traffic in WvW (depending on current map activity/status) and hold it Robin Hood style :)

I agree with the people saying that dead scouting is lame. I bet ArenaNet agrees and we'll probably see a fix. However, I don't think it's really that big of a deal. Any body that wants to stay dead is one less body back on the battlefield. If the tactic is overused, those players will hurt their team more than help it.
