What's new

Google Glass Invite down the drain... :(

I don't think I like the idea of autopilot for my car. I know it could be very reliable, but I still don't like the idea of the computer controlling and deciding everything for me. Liability is also a worry for me. What if I was asleep in the car on autopilot and it hit a kid? Would I be to blame or the AI?

I'm sure wide spread autopilot stuff wouldn't happen until all those kinks and more were worked out. Also it would probably be government controlled and all the liability would be off of you in that case.

Just what we need- gov't controlling our cars.

Back to Glass, though.

I heard they banned porn. Which I can understand. It would be creepy to have someone talking to you while watching porking out of the corner of their eye.

I could see flying cars when the autopilot technology is perfected and actual driving is taken away from people. They already have programs that auto drive groups of cars in a lane and can react to traffic.

Also nano tech is getting closer and closer. They just made a battery that is small as a grain of rice and holds as much charge as a small lithium battery. This will be a huge step forward in small tech like cameras in glasses, and robotic insects and much more. Most of the really small electronics are hindered by batteries that are 2 and 3 times the size of the whole build.
I actually just heard a guy in midtown talking about this, I guess he was part of the team that did it. Pretty cool stuff.

The world definitely needs a new power source concept. I've heard about using bacteria as an organic means of generating power that could be miniturized. Not sure where we're at on that, though.

They banned using google glass to make porn as an endorsed app. I don't see how they will keep people from doing it and/or watching it with the glasses. Now people can make pov porn without some dude hanging over their shoulder with a camera.

They didn't ban filming only apps. The weird thing though is google is open source so while it looks like they banned it when it is live any app can be used. So just for the beta program is it banned.

It's not the filming that I find creepy. It's the viewing.

People already think they can watch porn wherever on their phones, it will be even worse when they know no one can look over and see the screen.

You can see the screen of what people see on glass so it won't be a secret if you do.

Horrible picture of me but look at the square you can see what i see:

Actually not a bad look for you at all. The beardy scruff, I mean.

Glass seems to need some aesthetic love still.

like women reading 50 shades of grey in public?

I really want a pair of ze glass! The only thing I think I would do with them would be PoV cooking tutorials though hahaha.
Maybe a "Let's Play: IRL".

Has it been said anywhere that the price tag will drop come release?

Yes the rep told me more in line with a smart phone price.

not to mention, that the features and all the things will be refined and upgraded by the time its really read for widespread release. Many of the "tech-y" testers are saying that this roll out is more of a way to help google find the best uses for the device.

Excited to see where this goes if the government doesn't restrict based on privacy concerns. Which shouldn't matter since you can do the same thing with a smartphone and you don't have to voice command the phone to turn on.

I think Glass would be bad for game streaming. It'd be like recording your TV with your phone, and , unless you set it down on a table or soemthing, it'd be bouncing around. Which would be annoying and defeat the whole purpose.

I can see this useful for streaming IRL experiences like skydiving, mountain climbing, racing, hang gliding... Pretty much endless possibilities for that.

Yeah, there is some really good software out there for game streaming. They even have some for console games. So streaming a game not so much. The only problem i see with the IRL streaming is that there is some major competition. The GoPro, I have seen this thing in action and it is pretty sweet. The only thing that glass has on it is the lightness.
