How do you consume content on the internet?
Do you open lots of pages or tabs. Do you have a set group of sites you visit every day? Do you just click on whatever comes around? What are your "Must check out daily" sites?
For me I use firefox browser and you can sort bookmarks into folders. And you can put folders in folders.
I have 2 folders on the top tier: Main and Extra.
2nd one first, Extra is all the stuff I bookmark for later, or for irregular browsing. say once a week or less than daily.
In the Main folder I have all the sites that I open when I first turn the laptop on, or after I get home from work. Basically it has all the sites I go to on the regular. Here is the list of my sites, they open in this order.
Facebook (set to newest posts not top stories)
Instagram
Twitter
Youtube (set to my subscription page, uploads only)
Bestofyoutube.com (for cool random stuff not in my feed)
myconfinedspace.com
Reddit.com (organized to show the subreddits I like best, then I browse r/all)
Feedly.com (a good rss feeder)
Alttabme.com
Twitch.com (set to my following page so I can see who is streaming)
Most of these are pretty self explanatory. A few are not.
Myconfinedspace.com is a site where people can submit images. I feed my screensaver folder from this on the regular. that folder has over 5 thousand pics in it at this point.
Warning, this site does come with a NSFW label because it links to its NSFW sister site. Some proxies block it for this reason. They are only links though. It also has some borderline NESFW (the e stands for exactly) stuff that is darkened out until you hover over it. (girls in bikinis mostly) Best to stay away from this site if you are worried about people seeing you do stuff on your comp you would have to explain.
Reddit.com is probably known by most people, but damn if you can't find the latest trends, memes, news, info on any subject. I do have a set of about 40 subreddits that I particularly enjoy and they are seperated out so that when I bring up the site it shows the most popular posts in those subreddits.
WARNING: because Reddit is user run and user policed (mostly) there can be some (lots) of stuff you don't want to see. This is why its good to subscribe to the ones you like and only stray from those cautiously.
Feedly.com is a RSS Feeder. What it does is check out sites that you designate and gives you small snapshots of content that is posted to them. These snapshots are hyperlinks to the actual site and page so you can go to the site to give them the traffic. I believe reading on the Feedly site gives them the traffic as far as SEO counts too. Its a great way to follow sites that either post not enough to check every day, or that post tons in a day so you can consume it at your leisure.
I have all the gossip sites I follow, and blogs of my favorite authors, and webcomics. Things like that.
My internet day starts with me clicking on the Main folder with my mouse scroll wheel which opens each one in a separate tab.
I then glance at Facebook, and Twitter to see if there is anything big I want to check out, or if its all stuff I can come back to later.
Next I go to youtube and best of YT and "open in new tab" any video I want to watch. This starts the buffering so I can come back to them.
I then scroll through all the new stuff on MCS and save any pics that make me laugh or I just like. then close it out.
I skip over Reddit, TAB, and Feedly and go to Twitch. If there is no one I need to watch right now I close twitch out.
Now my real internetting begins.
I go to AltTabMe and check all the unread threads and chat box. When I am done I leave this open since I come back frequently to check the chat box
I go back to Facebook and Twitter and read through all the stories I have missed since I last was on. I'll close those tabs once I get through, although if bored I go back to Facebook and maybe PM people.
Now all that is left is Reddit, Feedly and Youtube videos. I will jump back and forth as the mood strikes me. There is so much content on those 3 things that I can easily spend all my time just browsing and getting lost.
Well, thats it for me. How do you internet?
