Introduction to Elder Scrolls Online

The Cinematic trailer just came out for it, and boy do Thieves/Rogues look badass.

Oh and by the way sign up for the beta :p

DBL post thread has been merged. Please CHECK before posting.
Coming from a hardcore Guild Wars 2 Fan and Follower it will be hard to post this but it's hard not to get excited on a fantasy game even if it will be a competitor to your favorite game. That being said, Bethesda unleached a powerful new cinematic trailer today called Aliiances and with it the announcement of Beta Sign ups.

The Cinematic itself is mighty powerful (pffftt Star Wars Old Republic Cinematic, eat your heart out) and shows an amazing visual piece for the game. Who said that the Fantasy MMO is dying? Ha, it will never die and is the main reason that MMO's will exist far into the future.

Personally I feel that the game is the first of Guild Wars 2 knock offs, but not saying that is a bad thing. in fact I think they are heading in the right direction if they want to compete in the future MMO space. GW2 will need to start stepping up if they want to come close to the number of Elder scroll Fans that that game will introduce to the MMO space. It will be a good fight between two powerhouse companies with talented individuals. Sorry Bioware but I lost faith in you long before the announcement of Star Wars TOR.

I signed up for beta to actually test the sucker out and hopefully give good feedback. Not looking for a free play so hopefully they give me a shot. Let's see how far this game will go.... oh and no I will never quit on GW2. I will play it until it dies and will continue to support it even after it does. Anet in fact is the company I hope to work for one day.

Let's do this!!!

I'm in, despite my better judgment. The internet is conspiring against my ability to do any work.

Which faction is everyone most interested in joining? I'd like to go for the Daggerfall Covenant, since Breton and Redguard are two of my favorite races, but I'll defer to general consensus.

I don't think I'd describe it this way, since it's been in development for the past five years (roughly concurrent with GW2's development). I just hope they've learned similar lessons from the failures of previous MMOs.

Their website makes my head hurt.. dunno how to figure out what faction is cool lol. I don't wanna be in the fucking human side this time. i need an elven type character or something that hates humans that is still hot.

Well, no side is "human," exactly. Each faction has three races unified by geographical location: Daggerfall Covenant in the northwest, Ebonheart Pact in the northeast, and Aldmeri Dominion in the south. Daggerfall has two human races, for example, but they also have orcs (and Redguards are cool as shit; they don't get nearly enough love). Ebonheart includes nords, dark elves, and argonians (lizardfolk).

Aldmeri is probably what you're looking for - wood elves, khajiit (catfolk), and racist-as-hell high elves. I don't know if you played Skyrim, but the Thalmor and their zealotry regarding the return of the Aldmeri Dominion is probably the gravest evil on the planet. They have complicated theological justification for the belief that the souls of mer (elves) are divine, and only bound to the mortal coil because the world was created. So in order to be as they truly are, they have to destroy the planet and all the mortal humans on it. So... be pretty and hate humans? Check and check.

Each faction looks like it has one race that excels at combat, one at stealth, and one at magic. The breakdown:

DAGGERFALL
Breton: Magic
Orc: Combat
Redguard: Stealth (possible retcon; they could still just be finesse fighters)

EBONHEART
Argonian: Stealth
Dark Elf: Magic (in the past, a magic-stealth hybrid)
Nord: Combat

ALDMERI
High Elf: Magic
Khajiit: Combat (another retcon; used to be the best thieves in the game)
Wood Elf: Stealth

I hope the class system is still customizable and robust. If not, there's always Archeage.

true, I am aware of their development along with what it took Anet to develop as well. Not really calling ESO a complete knock off but they are borrowing a lot of what Anet is doing and by that I also mean by what Anet is using from other games. Bethesda stayed completely quiet for their 5 years of development. Anet has been pretty open in the last 2 years about their game even if with small doses. Not to say that ESO didn't have a foundation to start with during development but it is not that hard to tweak a few elements from GW2 into their game. I'm sure ESO has at its core a strong foundation for exploring, combat, a new way to quest (which I'm not sure if they will deliver a more traditional ES questing or try to introduce a more GW2 Dynamic questing yet. I've seen some sign of both in the game from the trailers so far.), also WvW (or in ESO its FvF) isn't new not even to GW2, and I'm sure ESO will honestly have a deeper lore story.

Where I'm getting at with the knock off idea again is not so much the idea that it's a complete knock off, but the idea that you can tell that they are tweaking their game to highlight some of what GW2 is doing but also keeping with their original foundation. It is a much better approach that MMO's head in this new formula than to say hey let's try to be more like WoW. In the end package I expect a lot of the same elements that GW2 is doing and yeah it may end up being better. In the end GW2 did the same with gathering elements that Warhammer Online, Rift, and Dark Age of Camelot did amongst other games. You can see it in Anets development, and I see Bethesda doing much the same. Which again, is not a bad thing... I respect that approach. I'm just looking to see how they will improve amongst those elements that ESO is using from other games that GW2 is not already doing. So Far, I'm seeing that dungeons may be an ESO strong point and obviously lore.

I'm excited about this beta and I hope I can get in it to make a better observation, but from what they have shown so far... They are stepping in the right direction but need something strong to push them forward.

My first "main" character in Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim have all been dark elves so I'm leaning towards them. I really have no opinion about Argonians and Nords though...

2nd choice would be Aldmeri for the elves n'cats and lastly daggerfall. Just cus.

And if Tristan wants something that is pretty and hates humans, as already said, High Elves (Altmer) are the way to go.

Yeah I lean towards elves as well. In Skyrim my first char was super stealth archer Dunmer and my second character was a high elf battle mage.

As everyone said though Trist, High elves are what you are looking for.

Well then High Elves it is. Do they have iceberg lettuce for vaginas or normal ones?

I'm not sure I'm ready to jump on another MMO bandwagon. But if I had to choose, it'd be wood elves. They were always my favorite with Khajiit in second. So lucky me that they fall under the category of the high elves. :)
