So could be semi NSFW

As a Redditor wrote:
seriously. Ok, we get it, your girlfriend has an amazing ass and you get to travel all over the world. we're all jealous, etc, etc.
So are you jealous or is this just a really cool idea?

And the best comment:

She's wayyyy out of that hand's league.

I think it is a pretty cool concept. I like the anonymity that was achieved by having her face away from the camera... lends a sense of mystery to the images... like it could be anyone's girlfriend (for those of you out there who like to pretend *grin*). But no, I am not jealous... I just think it's pretty creative.

There are a few reasons why I think this works:

Great images and filter. Makes it look surreal.
The girl had good style
The girl was in good "shape" i.e. you had a nice shape
Her hair was semi red
It was a girl
The girl was leading the guy to awesome stuff instead of the supermarket and what guy doesn't like that idea.

Ways this would not have worked

If they were fat
If they had mediocre style
If it was a guy (unless you could make out his muscles and 5 o clock shadow looking like a really awesome Calcin Klien meets jack daniels commercial.
No filtering on the photos

Ways it could have destroyed itself

She turns around and is busted, while people want to say that wouldn't change it, it would ruin the surprise.
She turns around at all. Good looking or busted would have taken away from the mystery.
The guy having a ring on and her not mauahhahah lol

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
I feel, even with a 'fat model', it would still work. However, if you do not find ample sized people appealing it may detract from your 'art appreciation' in this case.

"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

Coined by people out of shape. (jokes aside) I hate to be the person who goes at this but I just don't get it. When I was overweight I was displeased with myself. I don't know many people who are HAPPY being overweight and regardless of personality it does come down to a "take care of yourself" mentality.

That picture is a beautiful woman who looks like she is going to die of a heart attack in a year. While she may look pretty she woud be killer if she ate properly. It isn't always about the looks it is a lot about the state of mind and being healthy.

We are not supposed to be overweight and we are not supposed to be super jacked either. Our bodies are meant to be at a happy medium, belly fat beng a way to protect organs.

I just think it is naive to think that being overweight in the sense of unhealthy is beauty. Our society jokes and laughs about it but we are an overweight society. So of course we laugh and joke it makes us feel better about an actual problem.

I admire your idealism over that issue, and yes it is a sensitive one for me personally because I am a beautiful, happy, plus-sized woman. :) I know obesity is a problem in our country, and the health risks are definitely greater. But do I think we are all supposed to be perfectly height & weight proportionate? No. That is my opinion.

Some of the worlds most incredible works of art were inspired by larger women.

Goddess artifacts from ancient cultures often depict an obscenely well rounded womanly figure. This was revered.

I am not saying you aren't entitled to your preferences... just like politics... and I am sorry that you did not feel like your best self when you had more weight on your bones. I saw pictures of you and I thought you were just as attractive, honestly.

But, I also think life should be about learning... finding yourself... loving yourself, for who and what you are. Do not deny those health issues if you have them, but do not sell yourself short either if you do not fit the 'mold of perfection'.

That is my two cents. We can agree to disagree on this one. :)

PS - I do not think that model in my previous post looks like she will die of a heart attack, not at all. While being overweight may be a contributing factor to heart disease, it is caused by genetic and hereditary factors as well, and many-a-skinny-folk can keel over just as likely from it.

I never said the perfect height weight or proportion. We are all built differently. But genetics don't make you obese. And i they do then why would we not work to battle those as we do a cold?

It is a hard thing to get off ones ass and get into shape. It takes more effort than quitting a drug at times. Yet we often are quicker to judge those who DO than those who don't blaming genetics or figure rather than saying it how it is.

There is also a weird abstraction caused by glamour shots like the above Either you get the super skinny or the super obese. There is nothing about the every day average joe. We like extremes.

I am not sure why loving, finding, and being yourself cannot also encompass the idea of shaping yourself. Why are they so separate?

Also let me be clear I do not think people who are bigger are worse than skinny or in shape I just think as a people we can add fitness into our list of things that is a priority.

I think loving yourself can definitely include shaping yourself, and a strong interest in health & wellness, but it won't be that way for everybody. I disagree with the general mindset that anyone who is overweight is a lazy bum that eats too much and doesn't want to work out. That is not an excuse... I just don't think you can pigeonhole everyone in to that category.

I also am not one of those big people that preach fat acceptance. As long as I accept me, you don't have to. I am comfortable, not stagnant, in my own skin. So you can add me to the list of people you know that are happy with their rounder body. I am not in denial. I am not rationalizing. I am only speaking for myself. If I am a size 6 or 16, I would find myself just as HOT, because menopause effects you no matter what your size. :p

Ha this is amazing.

And I know that not everyone who is overweight is lazy or eats too much, although eating too much kinda goes hand in hand with being overweight... I know how hard it is to get off my arse. Today I shoved my face filled with shit and the last few days.

And am I in perfect shape that I want to be in... nope. But I struggle all the time with it. I fight for it, and I fail often.

Didn't mean to hijack this discussion by the way, but it is really interesting to talk about. Another branch off this tree is the perception of beauty when there are other 'defects' like a perfectly shaped body (whatever you may consider that to be), but one that is affected by birth marks such as port wine stains, vitiligo, or perhaps other skin conditions... serious 3rd degree burns, severe exzema, acne or psoriasis... those types of things.

You can try very hard to hide or heal those conditions... but I just feel so bad for people who diminish their self worth because they feel outcast by something like that. It can be a huge emotional mountain to climb.

Call me a tree hugging hippie, but I try to find beauty in all things. I like to embrace simplicity, though I have a strange knack for complicating things. I think of the latter as a natural gift *smile*, rather than a flaw.

Pure symmetrical beauty is not what I find to be attractive. I like flaws, I like human things. But I also like drive and ambition to overcome the things we do have control over.

Because in the end it helps me to overcome it as well.

Ambition, confidence, determination, drive... all sexy traits. +1

I think being healthy is attractive. If someone takes care of their own needs, they may be able to help with some of mine, too.

Our fascination with skinny or "fit" body types is also cultural. I've heard lots of stories of groups that took trips to Africa. The "hot" skinny women were largely ignored while the larger, plus-sized women were hit on all the time. Apparently larger girth is associated with affluence, since you must be rich to be able to each more.

There has been a push in recent years to show models of various body types, and an outright war against Barbie. Hopefully, there will be even more "healthy is beautiful" initiatives. As a father of a 6 year old daughter, I definitely want her growing up with a good concept of beauty. So many young girls fall into eating disorders trying to look "perfect."

I remember traveling through the Mediterranean with my band mates in the early 90's and how frequently I would get approached by local gents, even more at times than the skinnier gals. One jewelry store owner in Turkey even jokingly (at least i had hoped it was a joke lol) offered to buy me for three goats, two cows, an orange grove and some gold. Talk about a strange pickup line! My band leader would have done it had the guy thrown in a sword (he was a collector) and some hashish (his thing, not mine).

Now, at 45, I have only just taken a stronger interest in working out at the gym and eating healthier. But not for esteem issues. For me it is about strengthening my muscles and flexibility to keep my body functioning as long, and well, as possible. I often joke that I was born at 100 pounds. I have never defined our despised myself because of my weight. I am thankful for that, because it has allowed me to enjoy my life more fully, and in my own special way.

Getting back on thread track however, my real point was that I still think this artistic series of photos would have worked with different models if executed in similar fashion and with style.

I dunno, the impact would definitely be lessened if less of the background could be seem around the girl.

Yeah it's likely a lot of greenscreen work--there's definitely a lot of heavy processing done on the images. I think the HDR look definitely points to it being greenscreened because it's normally achieved by taking two or more pictures at different exposures and mashing them together so the exposure evens out. It gives you that weird look where things that should be in shadow are just as bright as things that are hit by direct light.
