A kit to change your hairstyle is 250 gems (5/1000), and one to change every aspect of your character up to and including gender (but not race or profession) is 350 gems (5/1400).

Shame gems are so expensive right now. A basic hair kit costs over 4 gold.

Sweet, in the shop now? I didn't check it when I hopped on this morning, been waiting for these for a while!

And yeah, Gems are horribly high from the Lost Shores weekend, and this won't help.

nice, I might need to sell my leftover gems after getting my makeover kits!

This makes me so pissed about my chest purchases even more ARHHHHHHHH!!!! I had so many gems !!! ahAHDHDJASFFKALFHJIPQW!

The gem-to-gold conversion is still trending at an all-time high, but I find it really interesting that there was an almost straight drop-off 24 hours ago, before it recovered again. Did that many people really dump/buy gems all at the same time, or does anet step in and "normalize" the market at times?

Edit: here's the monthly trend for reference..

It's hard to guess, but by now savvy investors will buy lots of gems between holidays and announcements and then dump them when the price spikes. I can see some of the big money gurus with hundreds of golds invest in gems during down times and dumping at that spike. Especially now that there are internet tools that will send you alerts when prices hit a point you set.

In that graph gems went over 2g to buy 100 or 1g60s to sell them. In the first weeks of November buy prices were hovering around 80s say you spent 100g buying gems you would get 12,500 gems. Then they spike to 1g60s sell price because of Christmas speculation (or in this case hair and appearance kits) and you sell all 12,500 gems you would walk away with 200g.

Its hard to tell what caused the drop because there is no volume of sales graphed there. If it was less than say 100k gems (800g in early November) I would say it was 1 or 2 people taking profits. If it was more than that I would say Anet had a hand in the drop.

Yeah, it just seemed like way too big of a drop for just a few people to cause it, unless it was a monumental transaction. It dropped from 2g22s to 1g55s for gold to gems in about an hour. That's a lot of gems flooding back into the market.

Really depends on the volume imo. I would love to see the amount of gems that made that drop.

Sweet! I'm finally glad they decided to put it in now. A lot of people probably just hit the random create button during the 3-day head start so they can quickly snag the name they wanted and then realized down the line that how awful looking they were. Now they get a chance to properly customize their character without feeling rushed.
