Yet another reason why I hate Florida. Get me out of here!!!
(This is not far from where I actually live, yikes!)

Creepy sinkhole commercial they run here quite often... I feel so bad for the family, that definitely seems like the stuff of nightmares.

 
My dad was telling me that around Boston (I think) there are many homes built on top of landfill and required wooden supports to be built under them to support the foundation. Over the course of time the landfill leaked causing water to seep into the wood columns. They eventually fixed the leak in the landfill and the water around the columns dried up. Wood doesn't actually rot while submerged in water, its when the water dries that it becomes a problem. They fixed one problem, but then the supports for the house were beginning to weaken. I wouldn't want to be a real city-planner.
 
Florida is one giant sinkhole. It was supposed to fall off the map in 2012 according to the Mayans. (I keed I keed)
 
Califonia is one giant $h!4hole. Not a sinkhole. Though both are owned by Disney. So I understand how you confused them.
