Where are you from? (timezone)

Do you have any friends who are Members? If so, who?
I didn’t know anyone before joining the forums, but I’ve played random games with some members.
Character Name(s)
Milleuda
What games do you wish to play with the alttabme community?
Wildstar and beyond
Class/Race(if applicable)
Human Esper (Healer)
What role do you wish to play in the guild? For example: PvP, PvE, Casual/Social
My ideal game has a mix of both PVP and PVE. I enjoy having a variety of options to choose from, especially since doing too much of one thing can burn me out pretty quickly. Builds and strategies vary between PVE and PVP, and I really like finding the subtle differences to adapt to each situation.
If I had to pick between calling myself either a casual or hardcore gamer, I am definitely somewhere in the middle… is middle-core gamer a legitimate classification? I don’t have as much game time during the week to call myself hardcore, but I definitely put in more effort than a casual gamer does. I also take my gaming seriously in the sense that am always analyzing my performance to improve my gameplay.
Which previous MMO's or online games have you played and how long for?
EverQuest Online Adventures (2003-2004)
Final Fantasy XI (2004-2005)
Final Fantasy XIV:ARR (2013-2014)
Guild Wars (2005-2006)
Guild Wars 2 (2012-2013)
League of Legends (2009-2011)
Phantasy Star Universe (2006)
Rappelz (2007)
Star Wars: The Old Republic (2011-2012, revisited in 2013)
Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (2008-2010)
World of Warcraft (2006-2008, revisited in 2011)
Were you a part of a guild? What was your experience?
If you asked me which MMO was my favorite out of all the ones I’ve played, I would tell you Warhammer Online. You’d probably look at me like I was crazy since Warhammer didn’t have the polished graphics of GW2, nor the massive subscriber base of WoW. But it did have something special for me, and that was a group of people I grew to know and love.
I met the guild I spent the most time playing MMOs with in Warhammer. Warhammer wasn’t the best game of all time from a graphical, technical, or innovative perspective. But to me, the video game itself is only part of the experience. The people you play with will ultimately determine how much you enjoy a video game. I think less about the stunning graphics of a game and more of those nights we stayed up until morning to get through a dungeon; or when we held an RvR objective with 6 people against the zerg; or all of the time we spent gathering, crafting, and raising money to upgrade our keeps with the best defenses; or even (dare I say it) the shared angst of MMO launches that still haunt us to this day.
I do miss my old guild, but real life responsibilities prevent us from gaming together like we did in Warhammer. Regardless, I’ve made some lifelong friends along the way. I love that AltTabMe prides itself on being a community that outlasts release dates since that is what I’m looking for.
How did you hear about the AltTabMe?
When I was beta testing GW2, I stumbled upon the AltTabMe podcasts on YouTube. I found them to be not only informative, but also entertaining. I could tell from the banter that the people participating in the podcast were comfortable with one another and wanted to give back to the community while having a good time.
I was playing GW2 with some other friends at the time, so I ended up subscribing to the YouTube channel and signing up for the AltTabMe forums. I lurked for quite some time before making my first forum post and getting into Mumble.
What will you bring to the ALTTABME community? (Chatty? Skilled? Funny? Helping?)
Hmm… I don’t consider myself very funny so that one’s out. I don’t like to interrupt or talk over people, so I’m chattier in smaller groups on Mumble since there’s usually a lot going on in the main channel.
From the gaming perspective, I’ve been a career healer since I started playing MMOs. I’ve played just about every flavor of healer there is: Cleric (EQOA and Rappelz), Fortetecher (PSU), Monk (GW), Operative (SWTOR), Priest (WoW), Ritualist (GW), Scholar (FFXIV), Sorcerer (SWTOR), Warrior Priest (Warhammer), and White Mage (FFXI and FFXIV). I’ve experienced just about every healer mechanic that exists, so I’m very comfortable with this archetype in both PVE and PVP.
I am also oddly completionistic (is that a word?) when it comes to crafting. I tend to use alts more for inventory and crafting than actually playing the battle class. I had all of the crafting skills in SWTOR, GW2, and FFXIV and thoroughly enjoyed leveling them. Most people who know this about me usually ask me to craft random things for their alts and such, which I am happy to do.
From a non-gaming perspective, I consider myself an “old soul” when it comes to relating with people. I guess it stems from what I do for a living. I’ve had previous guildees come to me for advice on school, work, relationships, etc. Most of the time, I just listen since that’s ultimately what they want from me. When they do want my opinion, I give them my honest perspective (which sometimes isn’t what they want to hear). But I like to believe that this honesty is appreciated, because if they wanted superficial conversation there are lots of other people in the world who enjoy that:
How much time do you spend a week on games?
On weekdays I usually play for about 2-4 hours a night depending on what’s going on with work. I make up for it on the weekends and usually play 8-12 hours/day on Saturday and Sunday. I try to batch my cooking throughout the week to minimize interruptions on the weekend lol. Here’s my raptr profile for anyone who is interested. The most accurate game to gauge my play time is FFXIV since I didn’t join raptr until I was close to quitting GW2. http://raptr.com/jeylo
Is there anything else you would like to throw in here at the end?
There are a couple of questions I usually get asked at some point, so I’ll just answer them now in case you end up wondering this yourself
1. Where does the name “Milleuda” come from?
My favorite game of all time is Final Fantasy Tactics. It’s a turn-based RPG originally released on the PS1. As the protagonist, you encounter Milleuda as part of the storyline. She is a swordmaiden of the Corpse Brigade, a revolutionary organization made of peasants. I admire Milleuda because of her conviction to a cause she believed in. People like her remind me of those who risk their lives every day so that I can live in a better world. If you want to get really nerdy, you can read about her here: http://finalfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Milleuda_Folles
Most people call me Mill, Mills, or Millie if they can’t pronounce Milleuda. I’ll also answer to Jason for those that don’t mind breaking immersion.
2. You’re a dude. Why are all of your characters female?! (WARNING: huge wall of text inc)
Growing up as a kid playing video games, I always gravitated to the heroine (Lara Croft, Zelda, Princess Peach, Samos Aran) or looked for the female characters in the playable roster (Chun Li, Helena, Kitana, Nina Williams, Sonya Blade, the list goes on). I wasn’t picking these characters because they were “hot,” since I knew I was gay at a pretty young age (five years old). At that time I didn’t have a way to describe how I felt about other boys, nor did I fully understand the concept of physical attraction yet. So it had to be something else.
As a child, I didn’t know what homosexuality was, but I saw that men and women were allowed to be attracted to one another in everything I observed in my personal life, on TV, and in movies. I was raised in a very conservative Roman Catholic family, so as I matured into a teenager I was taught that the concept of being gay was a sin.
When I reflect on my childhood as an adult, I believe I played female characters because I not only related to them (since we shared the common interest of being attracted to men), but I also used video games as an escape from the reality that I was led to believe: it was not ok for me to be me. I had a lot of inner conflict as a teenager because of how I was raised, and it took several years after coming out of the closet to accept myself, heal my soul, and love myself as a human being.
In my adult life as an MMO gamer, the characters I choose to play are always female in gender. I believe there is some psychology behind why I continue to create female avatars that stems from my childhood and how I related to them in video games. I think we all, to a certain extent, feel attached to the characters we play in these virtual MMO worlds and want to see some semblance of ourselves in them. I have yet to see a slider that ranges from heterosexual to homosexual in the male character creation options. So until then, I’m perfectly happy playing the heroine.
Have you finished all of the prerequisite requirements?
Yes (I read and replied to the rules, I understand I must be active on the forums to stay on the roster, and I have a minimum of 1-2 posts(other than this application), and I made sure those posts weren't just bullshit)
