New punctuation marks are supposed to put a check on the inflationary use of exclamation and question marks!!!

Mannheim (dpo) - Everybody knows that in internet chats and comments the person who uses the most exclamation and question marks in his arguments is right. To help against this trend, and to save space, the Dudenverlag in Mannheim decided to add 2 new and stronger punctuation marks to the German language: ヤ and ‽. These stand for whole groups of argument aids.

The so called "yell mark" ヤ equals to 10 exclamation marks (!!!!!!!!!!) or a mix of exclamation marks and ones (!!!1!!11!!), while the "interrobang" ‽ stands for 3 question marks, 2 exclamation marks and an additional question mark (???!!?).

"In the time of the 'World Wide Webs' the literary language has to adapt to reality" explains a spokesperson of the Dudenverlag. "Additionally, sentences on Bild.de, in a forum and on Twitter like 'Sarrazin is rihgt !!!!!!!!!!', 'Poor Germnay !!1!!!!!11!' and "What´s that supposed to mean ???!!?' use a lot of precious webspace. The new punctuation marks prevent the internet from getting full."

First reactions from the internet community about these news reach from 'Geniusヤ finally, something is doneヤヤ' to 'What do they think who they are‽‽‽‽‽‽‽‽‽‽‽ I won´t let anybody tell me how to write ヤヤヤヤヤヤヤヤ'

If there is no perceived need for it, crap like this will quickly be ignored by any culture, despite what some academic in an ivory tower might think. Esperanto, for example, was supposed to unite all latin-based European languages. You're lucky to have even heard of it these days.

This is on the exact same level as all those internet words being added to the dictionary, same same but different. *sigh* internet people...
