Today, we’re excited to announce that pre-orders for Rift will open on Oculus.com at 8am Pacific Time on January 6! We’ll be sharing everything you need to know to order your Rift on Wednesday when pre-orders go live.

As a reminder, every Rift comes bundled with Lucky’s Tale by Playful, and we’re also including CCP’s EVE: Valkyrie for free with every pre-order!

This is going to be an exciting week for VR, so Oculus founder Palmer Luckey will be answering all your questions during a Reddit AMA this Wednesday, January 6 at 6pm Pacific Time. We look forward to hearing from you.

I mean, I'm not even vested into this at all (I think it's kinda silly personally), but I'm incredibly excited to see the advancements of this technology.
 
I'm going all in for it. Leaning toward the Vive but we will see when the consumer versions go live.
 
My question is how much it will cost.

Right now Occulus has the hype and is "first" in terms of getting it to the consumers hands so to speak. That actually accounts for tons of market share and market shaping.

I have seen better implimentations of vr and ar, but Occulus will probably be THE name in vr for the next few years.

My guess is that it will start somewhere around 300 bucks and then slowly become cheaper. HTC might be even more expensive, due to the 2 hand controllers and all the sensors you get.
Morpheus is said to cost as much as the PS4.

if you watch that on a phone you can swivel around to move the scene like you are in the middle of it. With vr you would just move your head.

I think I may get the Oculus Rift if its under like 600 bucks. Maybe.
 
Just be aware you need like a gtx 970 to run the thing and sli doesnt really work with them. Im at work so I can't really get you the supporting information, but I felt compelled to mention it.

I'm tempted to buy one and resell in hopes that they sell out. But then again, it's not like is a PS4 - and even those didn't sell out. Hm.
 
Well, that is a bit out of range for me to buy and not feel shitty about it. if it was 300 bucks I would get it.

Oh, and I heard that if you backed the kickstarter with the pledge that bought the devkit from day 1 you get a free one from this production run.

Doubtful, they said they would keep preorders open and eventually fill them all, plus the jump in price will undoubtedly put many off for this generation.
