Ubisoft: Release Tom Clancy's The Division for PC
Petition by
Sean Tyler
Georgetown, TX
Tom Clancy's The Division should be released for PC for many reasons but the most important one is that the release of this amazing game will only be for consoles. This leaves out the PC community. This leaves out those of us who like playing games on our PC's more than console. This leaves out those of us who can only play on PC for whatever reason or are best on PC, whatever the case maybe. In the end the issue is that Tom Clancy's The Division is not being released for PC and that is completely unfair to an entire community who would otherwise miss a beautiful experience.

Signed! I'll be getting a PS4 anyways, but much prefer to play shootan gaems on the PC.

These are odd times we live in folks. MMOs are becoming shooters and moving to consoles, and we PC gamers are left to wonder and speculate as to whether or not we’ll be able to play any of the new shiny. Heck even non-shooter MMOs are going console, as witnessed by the Elder Scrolls Online‘s recent announcement.
Now we have to beg for MMOs to come to PC?
So now Ubisoft has asked PC gamers to sign petitions and communicate our interests in gettingTom Clancy’s The Division on PC. Of course there is interest, and the petition has already received over 58k signatures, but why are we having to jump through hoops like these to get games on PC?

Well, the big obvious answer is that this is likely just a big marketing ploy and that a PC version of the game is already under development. Petition signatures do not equal sales and it is doubtful that a developer would suddenly decide to change its mind about developing a game for a platform it decided against just because of a few signatures. It’s much more plausible that this is just a way to drum up some attention for the PC version of the game and get a little free marketing publicity.

But on the other hand, we live in the age of Kickstarter, with more and more games looking to guarantee interest from the community before they see the light of day. Now let’s be clear. Ubisoft is not looking for Kickstarter-esque pre-production money, and I’m not saying that they are. But they are looking for a non-monetary commitment of sorts from the PC gaming community that says we want and will buy this game.

Again, 58k signatures on an online petition does not equal 58k sales of The Division, but I suppose if that petition had only gotten a few thousand signatures, it would have been a nice sign to Ubisoft to go ahead and scrap the PC version of the game and save a little development money.

For now it looks like the marketing plan has worked, and we should be getting the “official” announcement that The Division is coming to PC shortly.
So what do you think? Is it a cheap move to make PC gamers feel like they might not get a game and have to beg for it, or is it marketing genius to use this petitioning process to garner interest in the PC version of The Division? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
