Potential White Water Rafting in Maine?

Just throwing this out there since the chatbox kinda blew up at the idea.

White Water Rafting is kind of amazing. I went when I was younger with my Grandfather and haven't been able to go back since. Caroline also will never go, so I am here to ask all of you -

Would anyone want to go on a white water rafting trip in Maine? I know our Vegas trip kinda fizzled out, so I completely understand if this did too.

White Water Rafting stops at the end of September for the most part, and there are a few places to do it. I haven't looked up prices for group rates or lodging, just throwing the idea around for now and if there's enough interest, I'd make the trip too since it'd only be a drive for me.

Also, there are certain days of "high water" releases which pretty much makes the environment a flash flood and is more intense. Totally a testosterone boost going on those days.

I have been white water rafting three or four times. It's fucking fantastic. I would be down. Sadly my vacation starts Thursday for 16 days. I'm not sure how easy it would be to get time off later in August.

Definitely do my best though. Road trip Tristan!

more or less, I'd love to see

1. enough interest to start organizing a trip
2. organize a date for said trip
3. organize the exact locations of hotel/rafting
4. try to coordinate transportation
5. Finalize and HAVE FUN!

One of the notes I need to spill out - seems like every place requires a 50% deposit 30 days in advance to secure reservations. Just an FYI. IF we want to do this this year, that means we're already looking at mid September a the earliest, and it only runs until end of September.

I'm also just going to throw out - There are 2 high water days in September on Dead River - the 9th and 19th.

I'll just throw out a suggestive September 19th day to do this, just to get some confirmations rolling if we can. I see packages for about $100 a person for the one day trip of rafting, not including lodging (but they do provide food for that day).

I'm 90% sure Gabrinarra wouldn't want to go since she doesn't like 1. thrill rides 2. uncontrollable water 3. movement that is not in her control so me and mike would be more than willing to bunk with people.

Water would be about 65 degrees this time of year, so not freezing by any means. Plus, fall foliage!

And I'm pretty much thinking of doing this no matter what at this point, so whoever can join is more than welcome to! If we only get like 5 people, fuck it, I'm going white water rafting!

Dead River High Water Raft Trip - 1 Day
From: $99.00/Adult

resmarkDSC_0019%20(2).jpg

Don't be fooled by the name! The high water Dead River releases offer the most continuous and challenging 16 miles of whitewater rafting in the northeast with rapids that build throughout the day. After the trip enjoy a BBQ meal and the photo and video show! Minimum age is 12.

Or we can do the 26th

Kennebec River Huge Water - 1 Day
From: $119.00/Adult

resmarkDSC_0019%20(2).jpg

The Kennebec’s largest releases of the year! This water level turns 6-8 foot waves into 8-10 foot monsters. Watch out for Maytag! We celebrate these special releases with a fresh Maine lobster and clam bake along with the BBQ lunch. Minimum age is 10 for the full river trip but rafters that are at least 6 years old can join us on the lower section of the river (see Lower Kennebec River Raft Trip).

Well Sept 19 is wafflez wedding so that is out for me, and I would be hard pressed to make it work in September in general so probably won't make this one

Ahh fuck. Damn.

I would love to come to this, but since I don't know what my days off will be come September, and I have used all my vacation days for this year I have to pass. If I could decide last minute and the trip worked with my weekends I totally would. :(

So, I know this planning is a bit last minute / tight scheduled, but if anyone does actually want to go, I've love a hard head count to prepare and register us.

And if it is too short notice for everyone, I'm not heartbroken!
