PvP Server and Open World PvP

Because we WILL be rolling on a PvP server, I figured this would be a good place to cover what that actually means. There will be three types of zones, Exile/Dominion/Contested. If an Exile is in an Exile zone, a Dominion can not attack them unless the Exile is flagged for PvP. You become tagged for PvP by engaging in any form of PvP combat (IE. attacking the Dominion player). The reverse is true for Dominions. In a Contested zone, players will automatically be flagged for pvp. This means anyone can attack anyone from the opposite faction. On a PvE server, one would have to "flag themselves" before they would be able to do so, but a PvP server it happens automatically upon entering the zone.

What this means for TAB members. People should roll in a group as often as possible. Leveling buddies, farming buddies, or just general playing with each other in the open world environment. In these situations, one may be "ganged up" on by the opposite faction or getting mauled over by someone much higher level than you. What happens here is you should

1. Tell Map/Zone chat that "There is X at level X near this zone, be careful".
2. Tell Guild Chat "Hey, I got killed by X who is X level. Can anyone help me?"
3. Make sure they are sticking around before you cry wolf. If you got killed and they ran off, it would be a waste of time for 3 guildies to come battle it out, with no battle to be had, which then leads to us killing others, them calling in the reinforcements, and a HUGE BATTLE... wait.. this might be awesome.

At this point, anyone who is available and not busy (or just in the mood for PvP) should want to go help said player. Hopefully there is someone who can help you through this. But remember that this is the nature of open world PvP. It is not meant to be balanced, and it can be frustrating. But it can also be very rewarding. Mumble(voice chat) is a MUST for these situations. It helps you to get the upper hand. Communication is key.

Say you are in a zone that has a specific mob that you're looking for or a specific gathering node that you need. Chances are, other people are also looking for these spots, and it becomes a bit of a competition, especially between cross faction. Many times in the past I have seen an Alliance person gathering a mining node, only for me to come in, interrupt the persons gathering, kill that person and take their node. That feeling.... Is one of the best I have ever felt. Getting the kill, taking his loot, and moving on. It adds that extra layer of competition and ruthlessness that can make a great game amazing. (The opposite is also true, being the one who gets killed can be frustrating, but we all have to have a thick skin here, and really just pick ourselves up and keep trucking. Think of it as a challenge and a way to learn your class better.)

If you're not very skilled at PvP, that's fine too. It just means you have to be more aware of your surroundings. If you know you're not going to win, run. Call a buddy. Play with friends. Strength in numbers and all that jazz. Anyway, we want [TAB] to be feared!(no we don't want you tea-bagging and cursing out people) We're here not only to have fun together, but to WIN together as much as possible. Because nothing is more fun than winning, right?! And I can say this from experience, NOTHING tightens a community closer together than pvp'ing together in the open world.

Also, expect us to have organized raids against opposite factions towns. It's great to instigate these large scale battles out of nothing more than rivalry. The second someone sees a massive horde of 20, 50, 100 people from the opposite faction, they get to town and say "HEY! THERE'S PEOPLE ATTACKING X TOWN, LET'S GET THEM!" Some of my fondest memories are looking back on Vanilla WoW, wiping out whole towns and cities BECAUSE WE COULD. We didn't grief people and camp them endlessly, but we killed them on site and moved on, from one town to the next. It was great hearing all of us calling out who's attacking from where, needing healing, wiping out town leaders, entire guilds.... Nothing more exhilarating!

World PvP takes a thick skin, and we build that skin with teamwork and comradeship! [TAB] is to be welcome in any battle!

I've always preferred pve servers because I like to run around solo when it comes to dailies, farming, and stuff like that. I also go afk a LOT while doing those things, which means sitting back down to a corpse a LOT on pvp servers. When I eventually made my way to a pvp server in WoW, we were a 10 man guild and there just weren't enough people around to give you backup.

Honestly my only reservation before applying to this guild was the pvp server thing, but I decided a couple of things. First, the best players (almost) always play on pvp servers. Second, a guild like this with the goals the leaders have will make world pvp very fun, even to someone like me who does not have a much of a pvp past. I guess there is a third thing. The more I read and see about Wildstar, it's obvious that I'd be missing a huge chunk of fun if I didn't get in to pvp. Can't have that!!

Oh the open PvP war stories Tr1age, myself and Gyoin could tell you about from WoW. Almost everyone else here as well has some war stories. Great times, really enjoyable, there is nothing that compares to it honestly.

If I had to put money on it, you won't be alone if you ask for company :p
I sure hope so! I feel like leveling in a small group in this game is encouraged via "crossings paths" and the scaling of the events. Plus I'm as social as they come :D

I can't wait. Open world PvP with the action combat style in these beautiful zones should be awesome. Might need to call off work the first day to make sure I can get to the first contested zone quickly and have a surprise waiting for the Dominion /box

Haha, from much previous MMO launch experience, I would not suggest just one day (especially not just the first launch day). Things will break. They always do. Plan for 50% play-ability the first day, 75% the second, then 90+% the third day.

Gyoin - I must say that ur epic thread drops on wildstar have been uplifting, and inspiring. I have never been the one on PvP, nor really ever "liked" it. But the way you put stuff, is awesome. I see why your a lead, and I find that it would be easy to follow you. *ponysmile:

.... This brought a slight tear to my eye. <3

Did I say day? I really meant I'm quitting my job and signing up for unemployment so I have plenty of time to refine mechanics. ;)

Haha I'm potentially planning a full week off, depending on the day it launches. Mostly because I couldn't for GW2 like I wanted to.

Man I'm excited for this. I'm so glad we are going with a PvP server. I miss insighting multiple guild vs multiple guild battles just because haha.

My only problem with open pvp zones in wildstar will be the combat if the telegraph mechanic works half as well as it seems to if I watch for what X Y and Z player are doing Vs me I should beable to take on 3 players vs one and win as melee . maybe 2 vs as ranged well see.
I still think ranged will have the hardest time setting up in pvp vs Melee...then again I want to be a gunslinger for the challenge.
My 1st open world pvp was in wow I was a lvl 13 undead warlock. exploring the area around me some how I wondered in to southshore I ran across a guy in full giantstalkers I figured I was safe cuase I was near the horde town... Nope lol Ganked hard son.
I hope you don't come across your first contested zone till about lvl 25-30 by then you should have a feel for the combat.

In an interview with the devs they stated that you will not be able to see the enemies telegraphs on the ground, just your own and friendly faction members. So taking on multiple people may be a little more tough than you think. Ranged definitely seem like they are going to have a tough time in pvp though.

Ok in that case from all the vids I've seen on u tube each action or ablity has its own little animation....1v1 that should be pretty ez to spot but 2v1 should make thing intresteding. and 3v1 is just going to be pure double jump sprinting madness! I like madness leaves a nice flavor on the tip of the tounge

Yeah you should be able to tell what is incoming. The trick is getting to know every classes abilities and they've said each class has over 50 each not including possible racials and path abilities. I am pumped too, hopefully the pvp combat is fun, I only played about an hours worth at PAX EAST and it definitely has potential, but killing mobs didn't really give me a feel for how pvp might be. The dashing and double jumping are going to be baller! I feel the same, I think I play my best when the shit hits the fan and I have to fight for my life.

Get the heart pumping smacking the keyboard like your having Fits of epic rage the mouse is leaving blazing trains across the mouse pad.
All just to leave you dead but hey you killed two out of 4 of them and that's not half bad....L2 pvp for me PKing was the name of the game.
and then poping on to my necromancer drop down to 5% hp and casting bone spike at people n one shot people.. I was fairly hated on the kain server on my nerco lol. Thank god they added the sin eater imp into the game. other wise I'd just play my warsmith or spoiler. no one ever suspected the mild mannered Txoyhammersmit to secretly be the Incads necro murder of the kain server lol.
I even killed my own clan leaders just to see if I could. no one was safe or untouch able....well save for the one guy who agree to pay me off.

This is making the assumption that everyone but you is a terrible player who stands in telegraphs. ;)
