Think of it as a mini-lottery. It's kind of crazy thinking this can exist on the internet. Of course, the actually money dishing out is closer to 10k than a million, but still, it's pretty damn impressive!

They've done it twice in the past, this is the third time. Legitimacy confirmed.

It's my understanding that it won't choose the highest voted person, but a "first comment" person. The terminology is a bit weird, but the way reddit worked if you have an Original Post (top post) and then a "first comment" and then "string comments". There can be multiple first comments, and that specific post is how the ranking of post order is determined from "top to bottom", not "first to last".

So it's not the "top" comment that gets chosen, but any one of the "first" comments. Wonky terms.
