Retro Gaming.

I am starting to get that feeling of wanting to replay some classics. Some quick ones like Super Mario World and Donkey Kong Country 2... But this kotaku article really made me rethink playing Final Fantasy 6.

This article really made me want to replay this game. Really bad. I've always been a big fan of FF games, particularly 7 and 9. I've been waiting for the HD remake of 10 to give that another go and actually beat the final boss, but alas that project is MIA. 12 was ok and 13 was awful, but going back to the olden days of gaming makes me remember my love for these games.

The last thing I want though is to start the game, spend a week on it, and burn myself out (like when I typically restart old games I've beaten). I dunno. Maybe I'll just go back to Zelda LttP. That's probably the only game I always finish (with no deaths and every item collected). I dunno. I wish I could stream these or something, but no one wants to watch retro gaming unless it's a marathon or a speed run.

What do you guys tend to play to fill that gap?

I play more SNES games than newer titles. The ironic part of this statement is im typing this out on my Wii U gamepad...

I sometimes go back and play the original LoZ on an emulator just because it's fast and I love it. I was just listing yesterday all the games I own that I have yet to play or replay like I wanted to. It's a long list. :|

The hardest part for me is making myself get started, as weird as that sounds. There are so many things I want to do that I can't motivate myself to get done.. for fun! How ridiculous!

*goes back to wasting time on the internet until I get bored and play minecraft for the 60th day in a row*

I do the SAME EXACT thing. I get too lazy to get out of my routine. It's hard to change a routine.

My console games are up in NY sadly, so when I get bored of GW2, I do the 'old lady thing' and go to Pogo (haha!) or I'll d/l some cheesy item search game from BigFish, or I'll play Puzzle Pirates (an oldie but a goodie). I'm limited again due to my motion sickness, which sucks sucks sucks sucks sucks AND sucks.

Ooh, I was just thinking about starting a thread like this. I have a GBA emulator on my laptop (it can't run much else on it) but never really played any of the games I had. However, with the recent announcement from Nintendo about Pokemon X and Y, I got the urge to play some old Pokemon games. Those were my childhood, and playing through them again is giving me all kinds of nostalgia. I also started a Final Fantasy 1 playthrough. Now I have an urge to play all the retro titles I never had the chance to play (I have a particular friend who is really keen on me playing the original Metal Gear Solid).

Anyhow, I feel that emulators are a great way to go because save states allow you to save at literally any point. Plus, (with the GBA emulator I have, at least) I'm able to increase the game speed, making grinding an ease. The only downside about emulators is that I sometimes feel guilty using them. Granted, the one on my laptop is there from when it was my friend's (he gave it to me recently) and I've never downloaded any games myself, but still. For really old games that are hard to find though, I guess it doesn't make too much of a difference on the developer's bottom line. Anything Pre-N64 (for consoles) and Pre-DS (for handhelds) I'd emulate.

I will pokemon battle anyone that wants to with Pokemon Black or White (not B2 or W2, as I never bought those installations.... but with X and Y coming I might have to.)

ive been wanting to re-install some of my old lucasarts games like the curse of monkey island or grim fandango.

I don't know why Square hates making money. They need to re-release FFVII already, multiplatform. I don't know if it could fit on my iPad, but I would crap kittens if it did.

They have it on PC and PS3. That's enough.

If I ever replay retro games it's TRPG's like Shining force. And other normal RPG's. Or Shadowrun.... xD never did finish the sega version. Final fantasy 3 was good but idc aboout replaying any of them really.

I still have my SNES and hook up from time to time and play some Kirby or Super Mario World. I also got Animal Crossing on my phone and started playing it, but I have yet to find a good ROM.
